Eurasia Group is a leading global political risk firm that primarily helps multinational corporations and financial institutions better account for how politics moves markets and what the implications are for their business interests. I led EG’s government services business unit, which meant that I oversaw business development, program management, project concept development, and delivery to US and foreign defense and intelligence clients. I particularly enjoyed helping IC agencies develop tailored frameworks for managing enterprise risk across organizational silos and facilitating analytic exchanges with leading national security experts.

As part of Aveshka’s start-up management team, I helped the company develop its original operating structure and generate its initial business providing analytic services to the US government. Along the way, I had the pleasure of serving as the Exercise Project Manager for (deep breath…) the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Terrorism Prevention Exercise Program (DHS/FEMA/TPEP). In this capacity, I worked with law enforcement, intelligence, and private sector stakeholders in various state & local jurisdictions to develop and conduct tabletop and operational exercises.

DFI International was a boutique, DC-based national security consultancy… that was acquired by Detica, a leading UK security technology consultancy… that was named DeticaDFI for a time… before being acquired by BAE Systems, a leading global systems integrator. (I had many different business cards.) Throughout that experience, I had the fortune of leading highly interdisciplinary teams in nontraditional fields of analysis including red teaming, cyber HUMINT, and (then-groundbreaking) social media analytics. DFI (and its future forms) was critical to my professional growth, as it enabled me to experience national security consulting first as a language specialist, then as a project manager and team leader, and eventually as the Counterterrorism and Intelligence business area manager.

During my twelve years on active duty, I supported counterterrorism analysis operations at the National Security Agency for six years as an Arabic Cryptologic Language Analyst, contributing to the production of over 175 actionable intelligence reports. I served as regional Team Chief for a joint civilian-military language analyst team and fulfilled two unique overseas interagency assignments upon by-name request, with sole responsibility for all aspects of mission conduct. I also served for four years as an Arabic language instructor to over 250 joint-service students at the Defense Language Institute (DLI), where I assisted in creating language survival kits in 25+ languages to support civil affairs missions abroad. I particularly enjoyed the change-of-pace of a three-month assignment to provide linguistic support to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s New York Field Office, and the fun of creating competitive Arabic events for three years at DLI’s Worldwide Language Olympics.
