Brian Doyle work experience
A career timeline built from the work history available for this profile.
Principal Ftl Systems Engineer
The Northrop Grumman Future Technical Leaders (FTL) Program is a 3-year rotational program that gives recent Master's and PhD graduates opportunities to experience a range of projects early in their career. My experiences included working as a cyber systems engineer, working on strategic cross-sector initiatives in the Corporate Technology Office and as a systems engineer on a technology development program.
Phd Student
As a PhD student in Dr Meilin Liu's group, my thesis research focuses on ionic conductivity in mixed conductor solid state electrolytes for solid oxide fuel cell and hydrogen membrane applications. The goal is to investigate proton and oxygen ion conductivity with an interest in interfacial conduction behavior. My interest in energy has expanded into the public policy domain as I pursue a certificate in Science and Technology Policy and participate in the Sam Nunn Security Program to explore the real world intersection of academia, industry and entrepreneurship.
Teaching Assistant
I organized experiments for slip casting and die pressing for 60+ students alongside two other teaching assistants. Established rubric and graded lab reports for each student. Gave presentation about common mistakes in the reports following the grading. Continued to work with lead instructor to add equipment and capabilities for Fall 2015 lab.
2015 Summer Graduate Intern
Evaluated redox behavior of nickel-based solid oxide fuel cell anodes using mass spectrometer and characterized ceramic powder using powder rheometer. Worked with research staff to implement testing set up and characterization. Experience culminated in a written report and poster presentation.
Reu Program
As part of a NSF-sponsored Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU), I worked with two post-doctorate researchers in the synthesis and characterization of thiophene-based conjugated copolymers for use in organic photovoltaics. This 8 week summer internship culminated in 10 to 12 minute presentation. The data collected here was also presented at the Materials Science and Technology Conference (2010) as part of a national Student Speaking Contest.
Research Assistant
I began working with Dr Dunbar Birnie's group where I assisted graduate students in emulsion templating and small scale efficiency testing. I participated in group meetings and was responsible for managing my time with assisting as well as 2 indepedent projects.
