About Brian Vandenberg

Public service is a part of my personal culture. I have always wanted to leave places and people better than when I found them. As a young adult, this led me to several volunteer initiatives and internships, and then to obtain an undergraduate degree in Middle East Studies with the goal of promoting peace through diplomacy. Eventually, I came to the conclusion that I wanted to shift my focus to make change more locally. Having a passion for teaching, I applied and was selected to join Teach For America in my hometown of San Antonio, Texas. Over three years, I helped develop the next generation of change makers. Seeing the challenges my students faced outside of the classroom, I decided to shift paths and pursue a career in local government to better address systemic inequities. In order to equip myself with skills needed to be a more effective public servant, I attended Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and earned my Master of Public Administration degree. I saw an opportunity to work with a team committed to improving the delivery of public service in Tallahassee, Florida, and decided to head south. It has since been my pleasure to work as a Strategic Innovation Consultant and implement the City's Strategic Plan, execute business process improvement projects, manage the City Commission agenda, undertake the City's federal and state legislative affairs efforts, and act as an ambassador for the organization.
