Math 8 is the forerunner of the Future of Education. As such, I teach and promote a proprietary system of learning that combines the brain mind learning principles for natural engagement with math content and the executive functions to created a synergized learning effect that is more efficient and effective. Basically, easier and faster, with better grades. I started this back in 2002 after teaching grade 9 math in a private school in Olds, Alberta, Canada. I had just finished completing my Master's degree in distance education and started an online tutoring company. I realized fairly soon on into the business that kids could learn easier and faster. I stood on a soapbox and proclaimed it for a while, but I have a rather sensitive nature and when the naysayers opposed me, I shut down. But I continued to build online programs, I would never market or sell because I could not find the right answers to solve the 'Kids can learn easier and faster" problem I knew needed solving. In 2006, I came close. I went to visit Michael Gerber in the 'Dreaming Room'. Michael heard what I wanted to do and said, "Brian will transform the education systems of the world." Somebody else had said that to me a couple of says earlier and I cried. My dream was not to change the education systems of the world. My dream was to help kids learn math without all of the angst. That angst was not necessary. I knew kids could learn math easier and faster. So I kept working at understanding it. A year or so ago I created a metaphorized work formula that I applied to math 8. Then I started developing the Synergized Learning Formula. Then I discovered Cognitive Ergonomics. It reminded me of when I started my business twenty years ago. I created a document I called a 3-Dimensional Model of Learning and then found it coincided with he brain mind learning principles. I'm not trying to save kids. I'm not trying to save anybody. I'm just throwing open the door to Cognitive ergonomics. Everyone is welcome.

Middle School is the optimal time to learn how to learn.Between the ages of eleven to fourteen, there is a limited window of opportunity that not enough students are taking advantage of. Their brain is transitioning into a new developmental stage of learning - the abstract stage and during this phase, neurons in the brain are firing faster than ever before or after. This means that math needs to be presented in a way that correlates with these changes - which is not happening for your kid if they are struggling with math.

The Learning Engine was created to solve the Middle School Math dilemma, students who are really smart but are underachieving in mathematics. While working with my own son, I developed 4 systems of learning to solve this problem. The program addresses the confusion of the textbook, the lack of attention paid to individual differences, 21st century learning principles, and retention issues. I spent an enjoyable year in a grade 9 room at a private school teaching kids how to get prepared for high school math.

My position as a Math instructor was enjoyable and rewarding. In 1997 the College implemented a Computer Managed Learning Program, and I opted for getting a Masters Degree in Distance Education believing that was the future.
