Dr Bridget Maher is a Senior Lecturer in Medical Education at the School of Medicine, UCC. She is a General Practitioner and also worked in medical publishing. She was editor of Modern Medicine Ireland and wrote a weekly column for the Irish Medical Times. She has a Masters Degree in Medical Nutrition from the University of Surrey and co-ordinates nutrition education in the medical school. She is editor of the Medical Research Newsletter and developed the ASSERT for Health e-brochure. Interests include CPD (Continuous Professional Development) in healthcare, nutrition in medicine, technology-enhanced learning, mobile applications in medical education and Patient Safety and Discharge communications. The CLAS app (Cork Letter-Writing Assessment Scale) is part of the EU LLP funded PATIENT project and also won a Crystal Clear Health Literacy award in 2013. ‘Interno’ is a task-manager and work audit tool for hospital doctors. Dr Maher collated and edited ‘Learning Clinical Skills –Pearls, Pitfalls and Tips for the OSCE’ and has published on medical school attrition, medical handover, mobile applications in medicine, nutrition education in medical schools and Visual Thinking Strategies in medical education.Dr Maher developed an online nutrition module for the MCh in Surgical Science Post-Graduate Programme and a new online module on malnutrition. She has commenced a multi-stakeholder Needs Analysis review of CPD with the aim of identifying the challenges and opportunities for CPD development. This work will form part of her MD studies on CPD.
