My initial responsibilities were the verification and validation of numberplates, those that could not be identified by the automated system, for the billing of tolls. Attention to detail is seen as critical in this role, together with accuracy and speed; these duties must be completed in a set time to meet key performance indicators. I have since taken on additional responsibilities which include validation of data through internal databases, editing of incorrect data as required, saving clear images for reference and proofing all images processed to ensure invoices are not issued in error. Other responsibilities include call overflow for our customer service department, taking messages from customers if an operator is not available to answer the call and answering queries where possible. Whilst not required for those employed in image processing, those of us who do call overflow have all received additional training to do this as it helps ensure the business meets KPIs. I was initially employed as a casual employee (as are all new employees in this role) and was selected for promotion to part time in January 2014.

I completed an internship at The Five Mile Press as part of my Masters Degree. While there my duties included: sorting through unsolicited manuscripts, writing and sending out rejection letters, basic editing and proofreading, compiling of mailing lists for the company, sending out review copies of books to media sources, inputting text and pictures into InDesign files and assisting at a book launch. My biggest project while there however, was significant work on their newly launched website. Multiple titles had been posted in error, being out of print, and these had to be found and deleted. All other titles had to be proofed and edited, and in some cases more work was needed with blurbs and pictures missing in some instances. I was also fortunate to be able to sit in on many meetings during my time there (editorial, publishing, sales, licencing) that greatly increased my knowledge and understanding of much of the publishing process.

CashierI was initially hired as a service cashier with basic duties (sales to customers, answering basic queries, cleaning). Also assisted in restocking and facing shelves.SupervisorI was later appointed supervisor, which involved additional duties. These included staff supervision, replacing/reassigning staff as required, managing tea breaks, customer returns, escalation for customer complaints, product and voucher registrations and product ordering.Self-serve AttendantWhen self-serve machines were first installed in our store I was one of those initially chose to be trained in their use and act as an assistant to customers using these machines. Later I assisted in training and troubleshooting for other staff.
