I was chosen to intern full-time with Network Development and Integration at MGH as a part of Administrative Internship program offered for graduate students. Due to COVID-19, this experience was reduced to a virtual and abbreviated opportunity. During the two week virtual experience, I had to opportunity to meet with senior leaders across MGH, MGPO, and MGB. I also organized and ran a hot topic session with two of my fellow interns and prepared a reflection letter on my experience.

Portland, Maine Area

Finance Intern for the Administrative Department of Maine Medical Partners. I collaborated with a reimbursement analyst for the organization to explore knowledge and data that goes into calculating medical billings rates and the amount that will be reimbursed. I analyzed and researched claims paid at 100% of charge and drew conclusions based on the account information. I collected data on procedure code prices using a website, CompareMaine, to measure reimbursement rate competitiveness. I shadowed and met with individuals across the financial departments of the MaineHealth system to learn different aspects of medical billing and the process in which a bill flows through organization.

Teaching Assistant for the Department of Health Management and Policy (HMP) at UNH for Health Systems Research I. This is a intermediate statistics courses for third year students in the HMP program, as well as those taking the course to fulfill a minor requirement for HMP. The course introduces techniques for data manipulation and analysis for the health care field. It also introduces methods for survey research and large data set manipulation and analysis. I was responsible to conduct the lab sessions every week, provide similar examples to the ones in the problem sets assigned, and answer questions the students had. I would meet weekly with the instructor for the course to go over the labs went that week, where students might need further explanation and instruction, and the relay any questions to go over during the next class.

Extracted, compiled and coded data in Microsoft Excel. Produced branded, written reports and presentations in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Assisted the Communications and Public Affairs department with new and ongoing project requests submitted by members and departments throughout the University. Requests ranged from branding documents to fit the University's guidelines, to creating projects from scratch in programs such as Microsoft Office, InDesign, or Illustrator. Provided front office assistance to the building, The New England Center, and served as an assistant office administrator.

During my internship I met with all members of senior leadership management of Exeter Health Resources and its affiliates to explore responsibilities and operational attributes of each division. Following those meetings, I met with and shadowed department directors throughout Exeter Hospital, Core Physicians, and RVNA & Hospice to observe different aspects of service delivery and the support departments. Approximately half way through, I selected a project to focus on that is of value to the organization. I worked closely with the strategy department to research urgent care in New Hampshire and develop recommendations for investment opportunities for the organization. At the conclusion of the internship, I presented my project and findings at a leadership group meeting of which members span across all three entities.

Provided with opportunities to enhance and apply knowledge learned in the classroom setting while gaining experience in the healthcare industry. Winter 2017Continued to work in more practices to enhance knowledge and usage of MyChart. Worked with a new practice being on boarded to MMP during this time to adjust CPT codes and help with the conversion process. Filled in as a medical secretary, scheduling patients and prepping charts in their current electronic health record, eClinicalWorks.Summer 2017Complied documentation and prepared applications to submit for NCQA Patient-Centered Specialty Practice Recognition for 16 of MMP's specialty care practices through extracting examples to use from EPIC. Prepared template to track room usage in a specialty care practice and complied a report based on the data collected.Winter 2016Continued working with staff in primary and specialty care practices with MyChart on expanding patient users and knowledge. Completed more detailed analysis of outgoing referrals to look at practices and providers.Summer 2016Worked with front line staff to successfully expand patients knowledge and overall user percentages of MMP's online patient portal, MyChart, in various primary and specialty care practices throughout organization. Assisted staff on all levels of the practice to increase their knowledge about the portal and answer questions. Extracted referral leakage information from EPIC and prepared reports to reflect referral gaps.

Assisted in coordinating activities of the file area; retrieved/filed charts and medical records, sourced documents, delivered and retrieved charts to patient units as requested; scanned/indexed documents into the Exeter Hospital EMR/ELR.

Served as a liaison between park users and park staff by greeting and assisting visitors, answering questions and explaining campground regulations, familiarizing them with the property and all the amenities available to them, and acted as a guide to locations of interest in the surrounding area. Helped maintain clean and orderly office facilities, including the front office and store, laundry room, pool area, and lodges. Planned and organized arrivals and departures of guests, including allocation of sites and billing. Facilitated the control and care of rental campsite equipment.

Adjusted to customer workflow to be able to provide assistance to both customers and co-workers as needed. Maintained product presentation by adjusting displays and allowing customers to explore the newest products. Replenished and restocked the department so all sizes and styles are available. Participated in a learning environment to absorb new information and training materials that came available on merchandise and business processes.
