During my 2 years of serving in 2 urban school districts, I realized an underserved opportunity in our school communities, a lack of access to fresh local foods and school community gardens. Every day when I walk into my school community as a FoodCorp Education Service Member in the urban school community I show up to empower students to be Agents of Change. I have an opportunity to reform our food system and create sustainable pathways to secure our children's future.My work aims to nourish communities through our community partnerships which introduce families to local growers to ensure healthy food access. Currently, I am pursuing an MS in Food Sustainable Systems which aims to explore the interconnection between the social, political, economic, and ecological factors that influence food systems in our society.Key Responsibilities:-2024 Community Partner of The Year, Hawthorne Avenue School, Newark NJ-Initiated Conscious Consumption Campaign- awareness about healthy food choices, planning, and promoting a healthier school environment. Food waste audit.-Co-teach a minimum of 80 students, & a maximum of 200 in 2 schools in the Newark School district.-Create experiential learning opportunities with monthly taste tests applying the Department of Agriculture, Jersey Fresh Farm to School monthly produce selections, activities, and recipes.-Established farm-to-school partnerships with community partners RWJBarnabas Health Farm to KidsFit program. -Coordinated Child Health Day Hawthorne Shake-up for pre-k-8th by providing 3 tables of healthy alternatives to 488+ students to celebrate healthy, culturally relevant foods to combat child obesity.-Led a 10-week fresh food box distribution that connected local growers to Hawthorne Avenue School feeding 90 families and AVON Avenue School feeding 96 families. -Coordinated annual festivals and National Nutrition Month Jersey Fresh Promotional taste test serving 900+ students at 2 Newark public school districts.
