As the Health Information Manager I oversee the whole department for the critical access hospital in Colby. I manage the staff and ensure that all coding guidelines and record regulations are being enforced and followed. As part of this position, I also ensure coding is being completed as accurately and am responsible for SDS and emergency room record coding and assist in charge capture.

In this role, I began expanding my coding experience. I began to code SDS and inpatient charts. I also served as a leader for the department and reported to the Revenue Cycle Manager. In this role, coding was one of my main priorities along with communicating with others in the department essential information that needed to be relayed to the staff.

I began coding outpatient ancillary services then advanced to coding emergency room records. During this time, I was also attending Hutchinson Community College online working towards a degree that would allow me to take the Registered Health Information Management certification. I completed my education and proceeded to apply to take the certification examination. I accomplished this in June of 2010.
