Controller, Spire Alabama, Gulf, and MississippiA key member of the Spire Controller’s team responsible for overseeing the accounting and finance functions for the Utilities in Alabama, Gulf, and Mississippi. Lead across functional boundaries in the Spire One project to align subsidiaries with consistent business processes on one software platform. Operate as the main point person and Finance principal in Alabama by planning resources, soliciting individual engagement in cross-functional dialogues, and championing change management to leadership and the broad team with messaging of project status and process enhancements. Oversee Alabama project team by managing progress and coaching for any required improvements.• Facilitated 12 cross-functional teams to develop 22 current and future business processes, and 342 system design requirements. • Successfully defended the financial and operational merits of Spire One before Alabama Public Service Commission staff.• Implemented SAFe Scalable Agile Framework became certified for Leading SAFe, Product Manager, and SAFe for Teams.

Manage and develop team of professionals responsible for the operational accounting functions of three companies. Oversee processes to calculate and report gas cost, recognize revenue, and record accurate cash balances. Responsible for all functions of the asset management group including CWIP reporting, capital budgeting and forecasting, and ensuring accurate presentation of asset balances.• Conducted financial and billing system conversions of two acquired companies through general ledger mapping exercises, translation of fixed asset data, performance of cutover activities, and approving user acceptance testing of new functionality.• Incorporated the functions and duties of three former employees from acquired companies into a centralized department, aligning processes and reporting for efficiency and reassigning workload with a net reduction to headcount of two FTEs.• Led the design and execution of three significant process improvements for project initiation, accounting for miscellaneous receipts, and tracking of efforts to remediate a reserved environmental site. Shaped the design of a new process for shared service asset cost collection and allocation.

Manage the financial reporting of income tax provision for GAAP and regulatory purposes, and the analysis and review of all tax filings. Report directly to the corporate tax director with dotted-line reporting to the Alabama Gas controller. Perform an integrated role between the tax and financial reporting departments with experience in financial accounting and SEC filings including stock and asset acquisitions, deferred and stock-based compensation, pensions, and investor relations. Complete special projects as called for, including tax research and planning, forecasting, due diligence, and other correspondence. • Served on Finance integration team for post-acquisition integration between Laclede Group and Alabama Gas, conducting cost analysis resulting in efficient organizational structure changes.• Lead Alabama Gas Finance in process improvement which reduced close schedule by five days. • Led in application of technical guidance for items including acquisition accounting, tax method change, and newly enacted legislation. Coordinated consultants and acted as liaison between financial experts and non-financial personnel.

Participate in client tax planning, research, and compliance, as well as the audit of tax accounts. Coordinate the work of staff on numerous parallel projects, delegate work assignments, coach on technical issues and internal processes, and work with managers to plan the timing and execution of client service. Develop client relationships and serve as point of contact on recurring engagements. • Consulted within the firm on implementation and use of Corptax tax software, including leading internal trainings and serving on nationally-sourced team for implementation of Corptax at Berkshire Hathaway.• Designed process improvements for major compliance projects which resulted in year over year savings on the engagement, organizing information in a thoughtful and efficient manner and communicating the system to team members.
