I am Brittany Merrill, RN, BSN. I have been a nurse for almost 10 years now. I have loved caring for people of all types in a variety of settings. I currently am teaching and caring for high school students, which is fulfilling in many ways, but I would be lying if I said I didn't miss bedside nursing. I love connecting with each patient. I love the critical thinking. I love how important it is to be a nurse and a good nurse. I have had the pleasure of moving up to charge nurse rather quickly in most of my positions. I think that is because I am a very hard worker with good communication skills, I am knowledgeable in the areas that I have worked, and I am great at being part of a team.

At this time, I teach a college/high school dual credit medical terminology, a regular medical terminology, and a Nurse Aide Program. In the spring I add a dosage calculations class and a phlebotomy course. Our students are able to take national certification exams and become State registered nurse aides and licensed phlebotomy technicians at the end of their courses. -

All types of patients were cared for, including telemetry. This unit closed while employed, which allowed me to enter the float pool for a few months until a home was found on a Surgical Recovery Unit. This unit could care for any type of patient, but focused on post-op patients of all types. Telemetry was used on this unit. Bariatric surgeries were top priority on this unit and therefore education for the care of the bariatric patient was of utmost importance.
