After reading "Sudden Sea: The Great Hurricane of 1938", my passion for emergency management began. I studied Marine Affairs at the University of Rhode Island, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in the degree. During my senior year, I had the opportunity to intern in the University's Emergency Management Office. In my internship I was able to improve my writing skills by drafting various policies to be used by the campus community. I drafted a needlestick safety protocol for the Nursing Department to promote needlestick safety among nursing students. From there I continued to follow my interest in the field and completed the Masters of Science in Emergency Management program at Massachusetts Maritime Academy.Throughout the program, I took classes in various sectors of Emergency Management such as business continuity, legal issues, and hazard risk management just to name a few. From the coursework my interest for preparing academic institutions grew. I hope to pursue a career in preparing academic institutions for natural, technological, and manmade hazards through emergency operation plans and training platforms.
