I teach courses in art history for the HSU Art Department, including Art 103A, Survey of Art History I.

As Director of the Reese Bullen Gallery and Goudi’ni Native American Art Gallery, I oversee the planning, organization, and execution of all exhibitions and associated materials. I hire, manage, supervise, and coordinate the activities of the galleries’ attendants, assistants, and interns. I am also responsible for the management of the HSU permanent art collection, which involves selecting, moving, and hanging artwork throughout campus. And I am the advisor of the Student Access Galleries organization, which manages three student galleries on the HSU campus. As an Art Department lecturer, I teach courses on topics such as African and African-American art, as well as the Museum & Gallery Practices internship course.

As a Postdoctoral Fellow, I conducted research, published an article, worked on a book project, and mentored graduate students. In addition, I worked with a colleague to organize and facilitate a film series, discussion group, and two symposia. I taught the course “African Art Today: ‘Traditional’, ‘Contemporary’, etc.,” cross-listed with African and African-American Studies and Art & Art History.

I assisted with managing the collection, conducting research and writing reports on collection items, writing wall text, and developing a database of maps to accompany gallery displays. I also created an exhibition of hats from the IUAM collection, which was on display during the spring 2015 semester.

Assisted in gathering and editing content for the 2013-14 issue of the African Studies Program newsletter. Assisted with video editing for the online project “Diversity & Tolerance in the Islam of West Africa.”

As the instructor of record for this intensive introduction to African art course, I covered a range of African arts and cultures and was responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating all assignments and activities for the course.

Created an exhibition of my field research photographs featuring contemporary and historic Indigenous wall paintings, pottery, and basketry in northern Ghana. This exhibition was displayed first at the National Museum of Ghana (2013-14), then at the IU Mathers Museum of World Cultures (2014-15). For both of these projects, I worked with curators and museum administrators in the processes of development, design, installation, publicity and promotion.

I conducted field research in Ghana's Upper East Region, Kumasi, and Accra, focusing on the indigenous artistry - wall painting, pottery, and basketry - of Ghanaian women, as well as the urban artists and scholars inspired by their work.

As the instructor of record for this survey of African art, I introduced my students to a wide variety of African arts and cultures and was also responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating all assignments and activities for the course.

Assisted with instruction for courses such as “Classical Art and Archaeology” and “Graphic Novels,” grading all assignments, meeting with students, keeping track of attendance, holding weekly discussion sections, and otherwise assisting the instructor. Assisted with administrative duties in the Art History Department office and conducted research on a variety of topics relating to African arts, cultures, and histories.

Worked with staff, students, and professors at Aid to Artisans Ghana and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to evaluate a joint educational program and complete a report on my findings.

Scanned and cleaned images requested by professors for their courses and research and provided technical support for guest lectures.

As an Intern for the Art Program Director, I assisted with event planning, advertising, fundraising, and developing a contact database. I scheduled, planned, and worked with art instructors to facilitate all classes and workshops that took place at the Community Center. I was also responsible for the collection, development, and editing of content for the Community Center’s quarterly newsletter. As the Youth Program Coordinator, I organized and designed art camp activities and projects, supervised participants and teachers, coordinated the schedule, and assisted the teachers in their instruction.

Prepared and facilitated activities, supervised participants, and assisted instructors for the museum’s series of summer art camps. I also conducted market research and developed a contact database for the museum’s Youth and Family Programming department.

Helped with sales, paperwork, mailing, and general gallery operations.

Worked as a gallery sitter, assisted the volunteer coordinator, and helped with events.
