Profile bio

About Brooke A. Travis

I am a research scientist in marine, molecular, and microbial biology. I am broadly interested in metabolism and physiology in symbiotic interactions, but I currently study these aspects in deep-sea non-model organisms using bioinformatics, microscopy, and molecular techniques. I am founder of the Harvard InterDisciplinary Club (ID) which promotes thoughtful dialogue between different fields in academia, in an effort to encourage innovation and creative collaborations. I strive to inspire and encourage academic excellence within my community. As such, I work as a private tutor for young scholars globally with Cambridge Coaching and I am a part-time social media influencer in science communication on Instagram (@brooke.t.biophd). Outside of academics, I have led and collaborated on projects with non-profit organizations for over 15 years to promote women's rights, including the United Nations (UN) Girl Up, Thinkpeace Workshop for Girls, and Dance for Kindness. Previously I was a competitive rowing athlete, in which I won two National Championship titles in the United States and was awarded the Saratoga Rowing Association (SRA) Founder’s Award for exemplifying strong character, leadership and embodying the ideals of the SRA. I have a strong educational background with a Cornell University B.S and a Harvard University M.A.
