Investigating the intersection between lupus and physical activity to alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life. Exploring how social determinants of health, such as social, economic, and environmental factors, impact access to and participation in exercise among individuals with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Aiming to understand how these factors influence overall health outcomes and the ability to incorporate exercise into daily routines.

Weekly volunteer at University Hospital assisting medical team, answering patient call lights, restocking nurse carts, transporting patients, and fulfilling other various tasks to ensure a smooth and efficient hospital environment.

Gained firsthand insight into the medical field by shadowing in the field of Orthopedic Surgery. Observed patient consultation and follow-up appointments. Witnessed multiple procedures and learned the importance of teamwork among healthcare professionals to provide quality patient care. Expanded knowledge of orthopedic conditions and treatments.

Coached junior summer clinics (yellow, green, orange, & red ball), as well as intermediate groups during the school year. Set up player drills, instructed players stations, fed balls, adjusted player techniques, led stretching routines following clinic, coached tournament play, communicated with team to ensure player satisfaction.

Managed Sports Performance Center fueling station for student-athletes, assisted performance dietitians in team-based events, distributed and tracked Vitamin D for athletes across 15+ varsity teams, and developed educational resources for social media to help athletes make informed dietary choices.

Educational and pilot research project member, connecting interprofessional student teams with patients who have a chronic illness. Immersed in all 5 IPE competencies (communication, teams/teamwork, values/ethics, roles/responsibilities, and intercultural humility), highlighting the social determinants of health that impact the patient/family’s interface with the health care system and community.

Interned in Dr. Schlader’s lab, studying exercise physiology under varying heat conditions and its impact on renal blood flow. Responsibilities included data entry, participant interviews, and observation of studies. Certified through the CITI Program for lab work.
