Service Learning Internship With The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International
In the final semester of my graduate studies, I enrolled in a service learning course, Anthropology 500, in which we worked directly with the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International. In this course, we were able to work directly with members of the board to provide assistance through the form of a remote internship. Although each student participated in in the service learning experience, my particular contribution was often in the form of document design. The main objective of this service learning internship was to create a series of surveys for the fund. After creating a cohesive and ethical survey, we set out to survey a portion of the local population. We then analyzed the data collected from our survey and presented it in the form of an official report for the fund. Lastly, I was tasked with researching a topic that would benefit the fund and collecting them in the form of an annotated bibliography.
Graduate Research Assistant
In this position, I work directly with the Graduate Coordinator of the English Department at Southeastern Louisiana University. The main requirement of my position is to help the Graduate Coordinator keep track of the graduate students in our department. I track their progress, evaluate student needs, and help determine what classes need to be taught. This position requires me to have access to private and sensitive information, and therefore discretion is key. The other main requirement of this position is tobe skilled at research. I often help the Graduate Coordinator with scholarly research for her academic publications. This was a summer position that introduced me to the world of publishing. Through this position I was introduced to submittable, as well as the process of selling through Amazon.
