We offer undergraduate and graduate programs in Physician Assistant Studies, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Public Health, Emergency Medical Services, Health Science, Dance/Physical Therapy, and Gerontology. The ADACA Project is focused on understanding and appreciating the factors that impact access to care – beyond necessary capacity building in expertise, education, research, and infrastructure. Deep and culturally contextualized understanding about these factors is essential to the future success of our capacity‐building efforts in any given Asian context. We embrace that empowerment works best within a citizenship model. We encourage within-culture challenges to status quo and human rights considerations. We foster in-culture guidance from older people, caregivers, clinical professionals, and scholars.

The Ohio University Neurolinguistics Laboratory is dedicated to the study of acquired neurogenic language disorders. We study aphasia and aspects of brain injury, dementia, stroke, and diabetes that affect people’s cognitive and communicative abilities. We aim to improve the quality of life and care for brain injury survivors and the people who are important to them. A key focus is the development of eyetracking methods for indexing abilities that are challenging to assess: language comprehension, memory, attention, and semantic priming. Working in diverse languages in many countries, we strive to contextualize our work in global settings and promote culturally attuned advocacy and access to rehabilitation services, especially for older adults.

The Ohio University Respite Volunteer Program is a free in-home relief and interaction-focused program. Volunteers provide a break for caregivers of adults with disabilities and other challenges by providing personalized care and social interaction in the home. Excursions outside the home are also be possible. Caregivers have the option of leaving or remaining with the volunteers. Adults living alone or in residential facilities are welcome to participate. Families and student volunteers benefit mutually. Originally founded to help relieve stress of caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, the program has been expanded to include caregivers of adults with a wide range of other challenges.

The mission of CAPCSD is to promote quality, accessibility and innovation in higher education in communication sciences and disorders. The Council advances the highest standards in, and communication about, pedagogy, clinical education and research. It facilitates the recruitment and preparation of faculty and students to meet the public need.

Founded in 1937, Communication Sciences and Disorders is one of the oldest and largest academic programs in communication sciences and disorders in the world. The School is dedicated to excellence in research and education of undergraduate and graduate students and to students’ success in future studies and employment.
