Hi! I’m Brooklyn. I’m 24 year old and reside in a small town in Virginia with my husband and 2 cats and our dog. Growing up I always wanted to be a writer and a teacher. After high school, I went to a community college to get my general studies out of the way and then transferred after about a year to Liberty University to work on my degree in Elementary Education. In the meantime, I got married and worked at a local nursing home I volunteered at while my mom was working in their Activities department. I later was offered a teaching/tutoring position at Marion Middle School while I was still a student myself at LU. I aided the English teachers in 6th grade in pulling the students who struggled with reading and writing and worked out my own curriculum for them. Americorps provided us with books and as my students progressed, I upped their levels and relayed it back to my supervisor. On the days I wasn’t teaching, I worked as a substitute teacher at 3 of the local elementary schools. Later I learned that I preferred teaching English and not all subjects so I took a break from school. I hope to either finish my degree since I only had about 4 semesters left in total, but I would love to shift my focus to writing and/or creative writing or journaling. After the school year ended and I no longer could teach or sub, I worked at a grocery store until I could find something more permanent. This lead me to a doctors office where I’ve worked as a scheduler. After a year of working in a medial office, I switched to doing medical records for our local hospital. I love what I do currently but I am always open to change. I’m the kind of person who wants to learn everything. I’m a team player and love creativity. I want to have a purpose in life and in the company I work for.
