Developed and executed successful strategic plan for introducing NutraFlora, an nnovative new food ingredient to the American and International markets. Led sales from both a strategic standpoint and with personal direct customer selling. Developed and managed relationships with Japanese, Korean and French partners.

Developed operating plan, obtained board approval, purchased existing plant, designed, started up and operated plant producing Vitamin B2 using innovative biotechnology. Started up facility with peer management system in a culture (Eastern Kentucky) where such approaches are very alien. Achieved complete advocacy of system by employees. Expanded vitamin B2 plant including engineering and design for $16 million expansion. Developed purification process that produces food grade vitamin B2.

Managed carbohydrate business from $8 million loss to $6-10 million annual profit. Converted carbohydrate processing facility from traditional manufacturing system to peer management system with no floor supervision, incentive plan, peer hiring, performance review, discipline and other cutting edge approaches. Managed $5 million clean up of hazardous waste site. Negotiated all requirements with state and completed project with zero defects. Led facility from 10 lost time accidents per year to none.

Started up, improved and successfully operated a $35 million capital, 80 employee facility producing phenylalanine by a novel biotechnology process that had previously operated only at bench scale. Developed and implemented training program for new plant, administrative, personnel, and production systems at the only non union facility in the area. On shut down, the common comment was: “ I never expect to work anyplace this good again.” Modified the process to achieve 35% productivity improvement. The facility ran without a lost time accident.

Design leadership on a 50% plant capacity expansion resulted in engineering costs under run by 25%, the development of an innovative washing system and a milling unit that was copied directly for new plant construction. Innovation from conception through development, installation and operation resulted in a moisture control program that increased profits $2.5 million per year and a reactor formulation change that improved profits $2 million per year. As environmental manager, directed the process development, design and installation of a $3 million effluent treatment expansion. An NPDES permit was negotiated and obtained for discharge to a very sensitive receiving water situation. As production superintendent, hourly turnover was reduced 75%, fires were reduced 90%, and productivity increased 25%. Started up a 50% capacity expansion. Reduced lost time accidents from 10 per year to two years accident free.
