The Marine for Life Network connects Marines, Veterans, and their family members to education resources, employment opportunities, and other Veteran services that aid in their career and life goals outside of military service. As the Marine for Life Regional Network Coordinator for the Western District, I manage community capacity-building efforts in order to create a network of support for transitioning Marines, while assisting Marines in connecting with opportunities identified through the network, in support of Headquarters Marine Corps and the comprehensive programs of Marine Corps Community Services.Marine for Life enables Marines who move on to civilian life, after serving honorably, to stay a part of the Marine Corps family and brotherhood. The goal of Marine For Life is to harness the skills, contacts, and personal and professional networks of Marine Corps veterans and others in the community—to form a network to help Marines.

Implemented an aggressive social media and community awareness plan for the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) by creating and cultivating relationships with the local school districts, large corporations and regional Chambers of Commerce; resulting in increased program awareness. Represented EFMP by consistently delivering the vision, mission and intent of the organization in press interviews and at community events. Regularly facilitated a variety of classes and workshops for a diverse population of military families, veterans and community dignitaries.

Provided primary sources of educational information to military personnel, spouses, dependents, DOD civilians and all others seeking information at the Life Long Learning Center. Advised students on the educational opportunities at the colleges/ universities aboard Marine Corps Bases and in the surrounding area and available through distance learning programs. Responded to all inquiries on availability of funding, scholarships, loans, grants, enrollment procedures, prerequisites, room locations, schedules, costs and non-traditional education instruments including Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES). Provided information on the College Level Examination Program (CLEP), DANTES and Excelsior testing programs. Served as designee to sign Tuition Assistance (TA) Authorization documents. Interacted with colleges/universities, NCMIS accounting technicians, and DFAS to resolve complicated TA issues. Coordinated success Education Fairs for patrons aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.

Helped to lead a dynamic and innovative marketing team of 18 utilizing the most current and cutting edge technology. Established a sponsorship and advertising guide, which outlined levels of contribution resulting in increased community awareness and financial impact of over $1.5 million in cash and “in-kind” donations. Stayed abreast and informed of trends, products and services both needed and desired by the military community. Developed website content, managed social media outlets and wrote quarterly articles for “The Desert Lifestyle Magazine” and the local newspaper. Managed and oversaw the development, distribution, appearance and maintenance of promotional material.

Awarded the “District Sales Star” twice in one year due to innovative and aggressive marketing strategies such as customer recognition phone calls. Identified new sales leads while establishing and maintaining partnerships and alliances in order to build a loyal customer base. Utilized both print and electronic media to forecast future sales opportunities. Participated regularly on the strategic planning committee to establish sales goals, objectives and future promotional events.

Assisted Commanders and Operations Officers in the training, deployment and tactical employment of rifle, reconnaissance, direct action, weapons, LAR, and antitank platoons/companies and infantry, reconnaissance and LAR battalions. Supervised and coordinated the preparation of personnel, weapons and equipment for movement and combat, as well as the establishment and operation of unit command posts, the fire and movement between tactical units, the fire of supporting arms, and the unit re-supply and casualty evacuation effort. Provided instruction and evaluated military training to enhance personnel career enhancement and professional growth. Maintained a high proficiency in military standards, Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), drill, ceremonies, human relations, and safety. Advised Commanding Officer on a wide range of topics including the health, esprit de corps, discipline, mentoring, training, and professional development of Marines. Held the position of the senior enlisted Marine in the platoon.

Exceeded organization-recruiting goals by enlisting a diverse population of over 80 men and women into the Marine Corps Delayed Entry Program. Arranged for publication and broadcasting of recruiting programs and provided publicity materials to the public affairs office. Updated and monitored reports required for systematic recruiting while establishing liaisons with educational authorities and other civilian agencies. Screened and interviewed applicants to determine eligibility relative to moral character, criminal involvement and satisfactory prior service that best fit the vision and mission of the United States Marine Corps. Acted as an ambassador for the Marine Corps at regional community events to ensure continuity of the Marine Corp brand and promote a positive image for the organization.
