Bruce Booker has 37 years of law enforcement experience, including 8 years in the Garden Grove (CA) Police Department and 29 years in the King County (WA) Sheriff’s Office. He retired after serving for 11 years at the rank of Captain. He served in Patrol, Criminal Investigations, undercover assignments, administrative assignments, as a hostage negotiator, a crime scene specialist, and in administrative assignments. He spent 8 years as a Captain in Special Operations where he commanded the Air Support (helicopter) Unit, the Marine/Dive Unit, the Canine Unit, the Search & Rescue Unit, and the Traffic (motorcycle) Unit. In Special Operations he was also responsible for the department’s Emergency Management and Homeland Security functions. He was heavily involved in event planning and response for the 1999 World Trade Organization (WTO) meetings in Seattle. He took a leadership role in the law enforcement response to a magnitude 6.8 earthquake that struck the Seattle area in 2001. He worked closely with the SWAT team and other specialty units. He also worked with the Secret Service for dignitary visits to the Seattle area, including US Presidents and foreign Heads of State.For 13 years Bruce was an adjunct instructor at FEMA's Emergency Management Institute, teaching courses in Disaster Preparation and Response, Disaster Recovery and Mitigation, and Homeland Security.Bruce is particularly comfortable in international settings. He has lived and worked in Central and South America, and he has traveled extensively in North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. He has taught law enforcement, emergency management and aviation courses locally, nationally, and internationally.
