CED is Calgary’s lead economic development agency focused on increasing Calgary’s economic vitality by attracting human capital and business investment, and fostering international trade development.• Manage the development, implementation, and achievement of corporate plans, policies, strategies, and objectives including 33 employees, a $7.8 million budget, and 100 strategic partners and funders.• Provide leadership and direction for all activities, and work with an independent board of directors.Accomplishments: • Led development of the business plan and formation of newly constituted board and team. • Grew revenue from $2.8M (2003) to $7.8M (2014) through demonstrated success and leveraging of funding from private sector, community, and government partners. • Developed exclusive facilities and programming for the Global Business Centre (GBC). The GBC incubated and established 17 new international business organizations between 2011 and 2014. • Created WORKshift, Canada’s first telework initiative, a self-sustaining national program fostering flexible work practices for businesses operating in five major Canadian Cities.• Developed a 10-year Economic Development Strategy for the City of Calgary in 2008. Updated and incorporated a new implementation plan in 2014 with CED assuming an enhanced stewardship role.• Facilitated over 180 corporate expansions and relocations impacting over 10.4 million square feet of industrial and office space, and 14,000 jobs in the Calgary Region.• Secured funding, constituted a new board of directors, and commenced construction on a new $28 million film studio project.• Led the civic rebranding and adoption of the Be Part of the Energy campaign, a partnership with members of Calgary’s corporate sector to attract qualified workers and businesses to the city.
