It's been a privilege to represent taxpayers for over 40 years in state, local and federal tax controversies throughout the Southeast, primarily Alabama, and to serve as a principal author of many of the landmark pieces of tax legislation enacted by the Alabama Legislature since 1983. Also delighted to serve periodically as an adjunct professor in The University of Alabama's Masters in Tax Accounting (MTA) program. Also served as Counsel/technical adviser over the years to several state and local tax reform, economic development incentives reform, and state constitutional reform commissions of the Alabama Legislature. Was honored by my alma mater, New York University School of Law, with the inaugural "Paul H. Frankel/NYU Outstanding Achievement Award" for the state and local tax profession, and by State Tax Notes/Tax Analysts as one of their "Top Ten Tax Lawyers in the U.S." Also received the President's Award from the Alabama State Bar for our decade-long effort to (finally) pass legislation creating an independent tax tribunal, and the "Paul H. Frankel Excellence in State Taxation" Award from the Council on State Taxation (COST) at its 2017 Annual Meeting. Bloomberg BNA awarded both Steve Wlodychak and me with the "State Tax Author of the Year" award during our State Tax Advisory Board meeting in December 2017. Most recently was proud to receive Bloomberg Tax's "Franklin C. Latcham Award for Distinguished Service in SALT," last December.
