Synthesis Technology provides a java based, SaaS solution for financial service companies that arerequired to provide compliant quarterly reports. I was responsible for maintaining and developing enhancements to their custom publishing architecture. These enhancements included: custom charts (bar, line, mountain, scatter charts) and data loaders. The data and copy used to support the quarterly reports would arrive in xlsx, docx, xml, or cvs format. They would be collected from a web form submission, FTP site or email inbox. I would use Aspose to develop customized methods to collect the data and/or copy and store them in the database. During my last year I did primarily javascript work. I was tasked with upgrading the front end of another product: a SaaS designed to receive a Powerpoint file, split up the slides and save them as high quality PNG files. The client can then rearrange the slides and generate a new PowerPoint file or a PDF file. The upgrade transformed what was once a basic HTML front end into a single page web application. I used Webstorm and Charles to accomplish this task.
Senior Developer
Arc Technology Group specializes in using Joomla! CMS and the LAMP environment to create web based applications. We are a core of four developers who work on simultaneous projects while exchanging lead developer roles from project to project and supporting each other in what ever manner possible. We rely heavily on jQuery/AJAX solutions for both the front-end screens and the administrative back-end screens. Before that I was the sole in-house developer. At that time my projects included developing e-commerce stores and an email subscription web application with Java, PostgreSQL, Hibernate, Velocity templates, and the Tomcat Web Server. With these projects I was responsible for the presentation layer, server-side development, and developing the database schemas.
Senior Developer
Blueprint Solutions sought to build web applications for Real Estate developers and apartment building managers. I was the sole in-house developer. My main project was converting a Real Estate developer’s Filemaker based system to a web application built with PHP, Smarty, and MySQL. The application required building a series of complex data entry forms and providing report generation in both HTML and PDF formats. Development was done on Linux and the application was deployed on a Mac OSX environment.
Application Developer
Rivenet provided a web application that facilitated businesses in offering non-qualified benefit plans for their highly compensated employees. I worked with a team of developers where I participated in design sessions, extensive server-side development and some presentation layer development. We used JSP and Javascript for the presentation layer and for the middle layer we used Session Beans and Entity Beans. Our production environment was Oracle and Weblogic running on Linux.
Application Developer
Starbelly.com’s goal was to use the Internet to revolutionize the branded-apparel industry. As part of a team of developers, graphic designers and database administrators my two main projects were the Starbelly.com website and a product titled “Starstores”. The Starbelly.com website went through three iterations: the first being an ASP based website with MS SQL Server as the database backend. For the second iteration we rewrote the site with Java Servlets and used Oracle as the database backend. For the third iteration we deployed Enterprise Java Beans on a Weblogic/Solaris environment and kept the Oracle database in place. The “Starstores” project was a web application written with Java Servlets. It was designed to generate e-commerce stores that sold branded-apparel items. I also managed all the bugs that were reported to the development team.
Web Developer
Digital Media Associates was a small yet eclectic mix of computer programmers, artists and designers, and video producers, all of whom were led by an improvisational performer who trained aspiring teenagers at Second City Chicago. Our clients ranged from not-for-profits to businesses such as McDonald’s and CNA. We built simple HTML based websites, set up video streaming, and adopted Lotus Notes and Domino to provide content management system based websites. I was also expected to provide graphic designs for the websites that I built.
