I’m a leader and a builder, adept at motivating teams with a sense of mission. I understand the power of storytelling and have the creative skills to develop stories – in all mediums – with a deep understanding of digital communications, design and visual media. I have extensive experience working around the world in roles that demanded a sophisticated understanding of geopolitics. In recent years I have focused on environmental issues and the role of new technologies in forging a path to clean economic growth. I have worked across North America as well as living and working for over a dozen years in Europe, Asia and the Middle East, with extensive experience in conflict zones. I excelled as a storyteller in journalism before shifting into leadership roles in newsrooms, government and the private sector. My background as a foreign correspondent made me a quick learner and attentive listener, sensitive to cultural differences. I know how to adapt quickly and can operate in unfamiliar situations. I have inspired excellence from teams operating under highly stressful, high-tempo, competitive conditions. My career spent at the intersection of media, government and industry shows an ability to thrive in public, private and not-for-profit cultures, from multinational companies to boutique entities. My management and operational experience includes being chief executive officer for a nuclear industry innovation institute, which combined running programs in industrial innovation as well as public awareness campaigns; running a 24/7 global news operation as a senior media executive for the Los Angeles Times; and standing up Canada’s Advanced Manufacturing Supercluster in its C-suite, responsible for branding and communications. I’m excellent at building relationships and partnerships. I’m politically astute, publicly minded. Comfortable with risk. Able to engage with leaders in politics, business, academia, the military and civil society, as well as with people in their communities, wherever they are. Like to learn. Strong ethics. Always ready for adventure.
