We design and build complete industrial control systems. Focus in this role is mainly on infrastructure (HyperV & vSphere), networking (cisco, dell, netgate, fortinet), and DCS (DeltaV).In support of end-to-end solutions, I've cross-trained in many other diverse areas for this role, including reliability solutions, control valve maintenance, industrial communications protocols, DeltaV configuration, ignition configuration, PLC programming, building windows domains, wireless industrial communications.My job is to get all of this to dance together. As such, my role is about managing the complexity of systems down to a reasonable level. I do this by working towards ensuring systems are designed and documented in a way that results in supportable systems. Once we've put everything together, we take it all apart and move it, and then assist customers with installation at site until hand off to operational status.My daily interactions are with both other engineers on my team as well as other groups within the company. Outside interactions include assisting with defining scope to quote projects, seeking support to resolve problems, and project management to understand how my piece fits in with what others are working on.I am also customer facing support after delivery as time allows. This role has taken me to Iceland, California, Houston, Austin, Iowa, Denver, and all over New England. Each day is a little different.

Assist from conceptual design phase through final product for shipment for custom bioreactor systems. Write and execute acceptance testing for upstream and downstream bioprocessing equipment, including harvest, viral filtration, ultrafiltration / diafiltration. Troubleshoot bioreactors, harvest, chromatography, and ultrafiltration equipment for complete integrated bioprocessing platforms. Perform IO checkout, train acceptance test operators. Worked face to face with international clients on a regular basis. Act as a point of contact for resolution to problems. Edit engineering drawings within a change control system. Create new parts, structure projects within design databases for ease of use. (3 Years)Create and execute documentation for single use systems. Working with a finite element model for simultaneous heat and mass transfer to develop a model for deep ocean storage of carbon dioxide.

Worked as shift supervisor in East Greenwich and Wakefield, RI locations. Became shift supervisor within 4 months. Trusted with cash handling, employee training. Experienced in keeping the cafe neat and creating a "third place" for customers to enjoy.

As I grew up, I worked for my parents in our candy shop. Here, I learned about how lots of basic controls work, because candymaking equipment has lots of relays, temperature sensors, heaters, motors, gearboxes, transformers, controllers, conveyor belts, VFDs, etc. I also learned all about how customer interactions work. I learned about when it is reasonable to say no and when it is right to say yes. I learned about balancing costs with results. I learned about keeping stock of things. I learned how long stock is good for (or not good for!). I learned how to put together a point of sale system. I helped with web sites. I do troubleshooting on LED signage. I continue to manage internet connectivity, and security here. I learned how to jury rig! How to be creative!I learned about keeping good notes. Managing projects. Setting goals and results. I learned about risk. I watched the books being kept.Working for an entrepreneurial family is the root of all I know. This is my proudest work experience. This is where I come from.
