Among the many research groups within the company, one is investigating how the new services (e.g. digital video) has an impact on the networks delivering these services to the customer. The information travels over a diverse set of networks, including the home network. Untill recently little was available to enable the operator to control key aspects of the home environment : the home networks are owned by the end customer, he owns and controls it. This made it difficult for the operator to control Quality of Service for the delivery of data and has a potentialy bad influence on how the end user will experience the service. Moreover : some services will overuse the home network, thus reducing the quality of other services using the home network.The Home Networking group at Alcatel investigates how an operator can remotely control the Quality of Service available in the home networks . With this , the operator can guarantee the availability of network requirements for service all the way to the device within the end-user's premises that will consume the data. One of these networks will be Wirelesss Sensor Networks. My task within the research group is to investigate how Quality of service can be delivered over these Wireless Sensor Networks, how we can enable a remote operator to control the Quality of Service for Wireless Sensor Networks in a home.
