About Bryan Kelly
I lead a team of engineers to create platforms and tools that offer seamless experiences for application teams, enabling them to develop software more efficiently. With a track record of guiding teams in developing cutting-edge products and improving collaboration between Business Units, my expertise spans multiple industries, including Healthcare IT, self-service platforms for Developers and Platform Engineers, Authorization, and Authentication services.Throughout my career, I have led the creation of entirely new products from conceptualization to completion. One such product evaluated the risk posture of Kubernetes workloads to identify new vulnerabilities. The product also provided insights to developers on the health of their delivery process by measuring key metrics.I led the creation of a self-service platform that spanned nine different regions, three IaaS providers, 300 developers, and six lines of business. This platform played a crucial role in supporting businesses that generated millions of dollars in revenue. We updated the platform weekly without any impact on running workloads (for more on that, see my SpringOne talk https://youtu.be/wlzBKu6y_M8). The platform provided deployment and promotion pipelines as a service to development teams, ensuring that application delivery was done following best practices. One of my proudest accomplishments was successfully establishing an App Enablement Team that connected Tech Leads across six different business units. The App Enablement Team has helped to break down knowledge silos between these units, which has had a positive impact on developers. They can now share their knowledge with others who may be experiencing similar issues. Additionally, the Platform Engineering team has been able to directly gather feedback from its internal consumers to identify areas that are working well and areas that need improvement.

Senior Staff Software Engineer
As a Tech Lead focusing on securing Software Supply Chains, I devised and executed a product aimed at extracting information from diverse execution environments such as Kubernetes, Tanzu Applications Service, and Generic VMs. This also includes various build environments like Jenkins, Tekton, GitHub Actions, and GitLab. Furthermore, the product is capable of examining build system outputs to create a Software Bill of Materials (SBOM). The information provided by this product empowers Platform Engineers to evaluate the risk posture of workloads operating on Kubernetes clusters and collaborate effectively with development teams. Concurrently, development teams can leverage this information to evaluate metrics like Delivery Frequency, Lead time for change, and Lead time for Vulnerability Triage/Remediation within their projects. The product consisted of a polyglot architecture comprising Java (Spring Boot) and Golang microservices. The API service adhered to standards such as GraphQL and CloudEvent specs to make resources accessible to users. The front-end was secured with OIDC and utilized ReactJS. Customers had the flexibility to choose their storage and hosting capabilities. It was designed to support both MySQL and Postgres, enabling customers to opt for the backend database they were familiar with and had already operationalized. The product was agnostic to hosting capabilities, allowing customers to choose from options such as Kubernetes, Cloud Foundry, Google Cloud Run, AWS Fargate, or a VM. Additionally, customers had the option to use our SaaS version without sacrificing any capabilities.

Software Engineer V
I led an initiative to provide Tanzu Application Service as a Platform for as a Service to a team of 600 engineers and 2500 applications. I also spearheaded the efforts to transform applications across three different organizations. My efforts resulted in integrating 1200 new applications into Tanzu Application Service and enabling 300 engineers to follow a consistent CI/CD strategy to deliver products to production. As teams onboarded to the platform, they transitioned from an on-premises data center to Amazon Web Services. The platform's self-service nature allowed teams to experiment with known production-quality data services, such as MySQL, PostgresSQL, RabbitMQ, and AWS OpenSearch. I was also responsible for working with the C-Suite and product managers to gather requirements of the problems the platform would need to solve. Example C-Suite requirements would be able to have a platform help development teams meet SOC2, FedRamp and HiTrust compliance. Help team automate the evidence gathering process to attest to these requirements. I also led the creation of our Security Incident and Event Management (SIEM) process to help development teams avoid data breaches and to alert to changes in risk posture for the platform and the workloads running on the platform. Our goal was for all of these outcomes to be provided by the Platform to ensure uniformity across the enterprise to allow developers focus on software development.
Associate Principal Engineer
I led the design and execution to bring a Platform as a Service (PaaS) offering to development teams at Cerner. Our PaaS included several tools such as GitHub for source code management, Concourse for Continuous Integration, Cloud Foundry for application hosting, and vSphere, Azure, and Amazon Web Services for infrastructure. We used a combination of Terraform and BOSH for infrastructure automation based on GitOps. To make GitOps easier for developers, we created a GitHub Application that utilized Cloud Foundry APIs to reconcile the desired state in Git Repositories with the running state in Cloud Foundry (e.g. create/update/rollout applications, bind services, bind routes, etc).Furthermore, I led the design and technical execution of a new notification system based on Admit Discharge Transfer events. These systems notify providers when patients enter or leave an acute healthcare facility.
Senior Software Architect
I led the design and technical execution of a Software as a Service Referral Management Solution using Spring Boot, RabbitMQ, Redis, MySQL, and ElasticSearch. This included designing and executing an event-driven architecture for processing messages between providers using Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, MySQL, and RabbitMQ.
Software Architect
I led the design and technical execution of a Role-Based Access Control microservice that is utilized by a variety of other microservices. Additionally, I have established best practices for building microservices using Spring/Spring Boot/Java and Rest. Additionally, led the technical execution of front-end applications using JavaScript, ReactJS, and Spring Boot. I have also implemented a comprehensive guide for migrating to Maven 3 and assisted in helping teams transition from Hudson to Jenkins for continuous integration. Finally, I have successfully implemented continuous deployment of Java applications to Tomcat using Jenkins.
Software Engineer
Implemented infrastructure services written in SOAP and RESTImplemented automation for rolling out Oracle RAC Implemented continuous delivery of applications to Oracle Application ServerImplemented continuous delivery of applications to IBM WebSphereImplemented CI using HudsonDesigned and implemented best practices using Maven 2
Software Engineer
Developed back office software in Microsoft Access, Visual Basic, and Visual C++. Small projects with the number of users typical 5 or less. Contract for hire projects with time windows of 6 months or less.
