Starting out as just a dining room attendant at a local burger joint back in 2000 I learned that if you work hard and step in to opportunities when they present themselves you can achieve great things. As a teenager I was soon given the task of being a shift lead, often running the store as the lone manager trying to be a leader to both peers and other coworkers much older and wiser than me. After a 2 year proselytizing mission in the Philippines I returned to JCWs with the opportunity to be the General Manager. As the company grew so too did my role as the trainer of other store managers and shift leaders. Having spent over 2 decades in the food service industry I have learned the importance of making a high quality product and providing friendly customer service. After leading crews of between 50-75 employees I have learned that finding coworkers you can trust in is more important than any other skill. Developing trustworthy employees has become my greatest goal, and one of my best skills. As I reached the position of regional manager I learned that the systems you put in place need to be well defined and not left up to interpretation. I learned that the importance of learning what’s going on in your coworkers life and there personal goals is just as important and training them any specific task. Your team must know that you care about their success as much as you care about your own. Having now lead a team of as many as 260 employees I know that you cannot be everywhere at once so you must find those you trust who can perform similar to when you are present in the store as when you are away. Having had a focus on the maintenance of the equipment and facilities of 5 locations I have grown a great network of repair and maintenance personnel. And have seen how valuable it is to maintain close relationships with those who keep the stores working properly.
