He is both smart and practical, with little patience for inefficiency. Yet he's not a complainer... every time he has come to me with a problem he has already had a solution ready at hand. Usually he's even prototyped that solution to prove it out- half the time I just have to tell him to turn it on and it is basically done. Bryan doesn't lack for soft skills either- he is a great team player and is able to articulate his ideas and the flaws in others' diplomatically without giving in to that urge we've all felt to call a spade a *cough* idiot. If you are also a hiring manager reading this recommendation I don't have to tell you how refreshing this is. In the year and a half I directly managed Bryan, he always made my life easier, never harder. He is disciplined and is therefore one of the few people out there who have no problem working remotely. He has a high enough EQ and communications skills such that he knows how to overcommunicate to mitigate the "remote" part of remote working- the team always felt as if Bryan was just sitting at the next cube. He has a diverse and eclectic technical background, which makes him a bit hard to pigeon hole, but that is the beauty of Bryan- he never met a challenge he couldn't sink his teeth into, and in my experience, conquer. He is one of the two guys on the team everyone else always went to when they couldn't figure out a problem- it quickly became apparent to me that he was quietly behind the scenes enabling the success of others. One example that comes to mind is another team member was tasked with writing a script to aid in production software deployment to AWS... the other team member got most of the way there but was having trouble getting it across the finish line. Then the next day it was magically done, and it was polished and beautiful. That team member later let me know that Bryan brought it over the line for him. Bryan never publicized his role or asked for praise. He just quietly, competently, helped the team get the job done. In Bryan's intro on LinkedIn I note that he says his previous managers labeled him "The Ideal Remote Employee". I say they damn him with faint praise. Bryan is an ideal employee, period. In closing I will leave you with this thought: If I were starting my own startup today and I could only hire one engineer, I would go to Bryan first. It was truly a pleasure to work with Bryan, and I would love nothing more than to work with him again someday." and "Bryan is the guy that comes up with solutions that are creative angles that others are afraid to take.
