I have always reminded myself that in my position as the Utah County Clerk/ Auditor I have a responsibility to safeguard the funds and resources we have been entrusted by the citizens of Utah County. Based upon my private section experience and successes, I have always looked for the opportunity to bring efficiency to County government in spite of the constraints that the staff and I operate within.I'm proud of the fact that with my staff we have always presented each year a balanced Auditor's annual tentative budget with out recommending a tax increase. We have also worked with all departments in the County to promote the best use of the tax dollars we have been given. Utah County has been recognized as one of the best managed Counties in the State of Utah, which has been recognized as one of the best managed states. My staff and I feel that we have played important role in contributing to fiscal management and oversight of the Counties assets.Continuous improvement is a principle I learned in the private sector. Managing elections is always full of challenges as you recruit and train hundreds of poll workers and temporary support staff for each election. From our past miscues, I have directed the appropriate changes and adjustments to continue to fine-tune the integrity of our Elections. Over the course of the several years we have streamlined the processes in the Tax Administration division of our office. The staff have developed better oversight of Tax Abatement applications, and eliminated unnecessary steps in the Board of Equalization process. This has been accomplished through borrowing best practices from other Counties, and encouraging and supporting the staff as they try new initiatives and processes.

I started with TransEra Corporation in 1993 just as they were acquiring Vantage Controls. TransEar/ Vantage had 20+ employees and annual sales of around $2 million dollars. TransEra is a High Tech Engineering firm that developed the profitable software product HTBasic. With the acquisition of Vantage Controls the company expanded into the Home Lighting and Automation market. Over the next 12+ years I was with the company we grew from the 20 employees to over 100+ employees and $30 million in annual sales.With the rapid growth of the company, I had the opportunity to progress from an Accounts Receivable/ Credit Clerk into the area of Inventory Management (Vantage). Additional assignments with Purchasing, Quality Assurance (Vantage) and Operations Manager followed. Under my direction we were able to decrease the order to ship time of the HTBasic product line from 10 days to the same day for all Domestic orders, and the next day for all International orders. This quick turn time resulted in many more inventory turns, lower Accounts Receivables, and increased customer satisfaction.I also shepherded the initiative to standardize the packaging for the HTbasic products. This reduced our cost of goods by more than 50%, and lead to greater profits.

During my tenure at the Newspaper Agency I initially worked as a part-time employee working in Collections (delinquent accounts), then as a Driver, and then there to the position of Utah County Station Manager. As Station Manager, I was responsible for the Utah County circulation distribution point for the Salt Lake Tribune and the Deseret News.I was promoted to the position of District Service Manager for the Desert News for Provo and the South end of Utah County. In this capacity I had responsibility for managing a newspaper carrier force of 40+ carriers and 5 part-time employees. One of my main focuses was customer service. During my tenure as a District Service Manager, I regularly achieved one of the lowest customer compliant ratios of all the Districts along the Wasatch Front. I left full-time employment with NAC to pursue other professionally opportunities, but was quickly lured back to work as a part-time District Service Manger in the south end of Utah County in addition to my full-time position with TransEra Corp. During this time I continued to focus on customer service and maintained one of the lowest compliant ratios in the company
