Started CyberPatriot program and coach multiple teams each season - won #1 middle school division award for CT in 2022, #3 middle school division award for CT in 2021. Earned CompTIA Security+ certification after several months of self studying so that I am more knowledgeable about cybersecurity. Started school's involvement in Connecticut Invention Convention and will coach 80 students to compete. Planned and taught multiple aerospace lessons that will result in our earning the Civil Air Patrol Aerospace Education Excellence Award.

Taught physics plus science and engineering research course at Thomaston High School. Integrated science and math with engineering and technology to help students see cross connections and applications of what they are learning. Collaborated with other science and math teachers to help them use my integrated projects and rubrics assessing key concepts and skills. Initiated, coordinated, and organized new Science and Engineering Cohort of ten students who study science and engineering research in a challenging three-year program with college credit opportunity with University at Albany. Started STEM Competition Club and coached students in CyberPatriot, nation's largest cyber security competition for middle and high schoolers, as well as Connecticut Invention Convention, an engineering design competition--one high school competitor won top awards at CT Invention Convention and award at National Invention Convention--a first for Thomaston HS. Training students for Connecticut Junior Science and Humanities Symposium and Connecticut Science and Engineering Fair. Trained in instructional rounds process. Nominated as Chairperson of District Safety Council, helping to manage security and emergency response in school. Thomaston Public Schools Teacher of the Year and Connecticut Teacher of the Year Semifinalist, 2021.

I started up a new Academy of Aerospace and Engineering, a school within a school. It is a special program for 50 middle schoolers who apply and are selected by lottery from within the Newington Public Schools district. These students attend language arts, social studies, gym, and some electives with the rest of their middle school classmates, but they spend the rest of the day in the Academy learning math, science, and engineering using a project-based approach in a creative environment. The curriculum fully incorporates Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). It is organized along the major themes of aerospace science: the science of flight, known as aeronautics; the aerospace environment, including the atmosphere, weather, and space; aerospace physiology, studying the effects of air and space travel; air navigation and map reading; and rocketry and the study of spacecraft. This integrated STEM curriculum includes the robust use of technology with a suite of flight simulators, a scale wind tunnel, and a large makerspace with 3D printing. Coached students in several STEM competitions, including CyberPatriot and Invention Convention. Presented on curriculum design to Connecticut Science Teachers Association, UCONN School of Education, and local school district. Educational Consultant to CT Dept of Education regional office.

Taught Honors and College Prep level Physics, following standard curriculum and common exams, but added project-based lessons to the traditional curriculum to give more students an opportunity to prove their understanding and proficiency. Also taught Introduction to Engineering Design using Project Lead The Way's project-based curriculum. My students also benefited from my Air Force background by my enrolling them in the NASA Explorer School program and the Civil Air Patrol Aerospace Education Excellence Award. Both of these programs gave me the opportunity to use aerospace examples wherever possible in teaching physics and engineering, and these examples showed the students direct applications of the physics concepts they learned. I also used my mathematics certification to connect math concepts to physics and engineering so that my students got a true STEM experience in all my courses. Coach for Ridgefield High School's Science Olympiad Team and Sikorsky STEM Challenge Team in both 2013-2014 and 2014-2015. Also successfully mentored three high school science students to write and publish books on their science experiences.

Supervisor and lead teacher of AFJROTC program at Danbury High School for 7 years, overseeing all academics, community service, field trips, fundraising and budgeting, competitive events, and social events. Earned Physics certification in 2006, then partnered with high school science department to build physics electives as part of AFJROTC program. Earned AFJROTC Distinguished Unit 7/7 years, AFJROTC Outstanding Instructor Award 6/7 years, and AFJROTC Gold Badge Award (top 10% of instructors nationwide). Mentored team of students in Team America Rocketry Challenge.

Officer, pilot, and project manager in US Air Force. Instructor pilot in T-38 supersonic jet trainer, C-130 4-engine turboprop transport and KC-135 4-engine turbofan air refueler, all of which gave me extensive experience teaching adult learners in both formal classroom setting and on aircraft. Multiple command and supervisor positions, including acting commander of 100th Operations Group overseeing all flying operations at RAF Mildenhall, UK in 2003. Ten years in overseas assignments with 5 years in Japan and 5 in England. Superb experience in staff assignments in project management and military acquisition at Los Angeles Air Force Base, Pentagon and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base with extensive experience in C-17 aircraft acquisition program. USAF Space Officer working in Space Shuttle and satellite control programs. Retired as Lieutenant Colonel after full career.
