Bryan is a leader in community and economic development strategy with foundations in economic geography, urban industrial development and sustainability, and neighborhood planning and design. Trained as an urban planner, Bryan studied downtown Los Angeles’ Fashion District before working with city planning departments at Glendale and Los Angeles. In Philadelphia, Bryan’s work focused on the resurgence of urban industrial economies in “post-industrial” American cities. His effort to develop an Industrial Market and Land Use Study for the City of Philadelphia was recognized with a PA-APA Planning Excellence Award for Best Practice. This led to work on economic strategies in St. Paul, MN, and Louisville, KY and to the groundbreaking Detroit Future City Plan to develop a sustainable long-term vision for the economic future of Detroit. With CAI, Bryan has led economic and community development planning for a number of cities in the region including Sammamish, Kent, Lynnwood, and Walla Walla, and has contributed to statewide economic impact studies of the maritime and aerospace industries. Bryan also led the analytics for the first large-scale industrial land supply and demand analysis for the central Puget Sound region, and has led studies of local production in the Ballard-Interbay MIC and the Arlington-Marysville MIC. Most recently, Bryan has helped lead the development of economic recovery and resilience plans for the communities of the North Stillaguamish Valley and Okanogan County in Washington State.

Planner and urban designer for Philadelphia's Improving Public Safety Through TOD study, and Wilmington's West Center City Master Plan. Urban designer for Norris Street Passage, and Germantown Avenue Master Plan.

Design, research, and public outreach for the Cornfields Arroyo-Seco Specific Plan. The plan was a municipal LEED ND pilot project to frame a sustainable development vision for a mixed industrial-residential neighborhood north of downtown Los Angeles centered on the new Los Angeles State Historic Park.

Researched and analyzed informal "Colonia" settlements in Imperial County, California.

Worked in the City's newly created urban design studio on a unifying set of citywide urban design guidelines. Other projects: City of Glendale General Plan Update; Sustainability Element; Housing Element Update.
