DirectorCenter For Community Engagement, Montclair State University Jul 2003 - PresentUnder the direction of the associate provost and in collaboration with university administration, faculty, and staff I am responsible for the development, coordination, and administration of a campus-wide center that comprises multiple programs, projects, and initiatives that annually engages approximately 1000 students and 20 faculty members from the University’s five colleges and schools in community-based learning and research activities. As such, my job duties include, but are not confined to the following:• Recruit and provide professional development opportunities for MSU faculty members in the philosophy, pedagogy, and best practices of community-based teaching and learning. • Monitor and manage work- and service-based academic courses including coordinating with the registrar to list and revise new and existing courses, .• Establish program goals and monitor outcomes consistent with the mission of the University and strategic directions of the Center. • Establish and maintain effective communication and cooperative working relationships with program staff, university administrators, faculty, and community partners/employers to accomplish the mission, goals and objectives of the Center and its various projects and initiatives. • Review data and prepare budgets to ensure fiscal and individual program accountability. • Supervise the professional and support staff, develop performance standards, review performance evaluations, and approve personnel actions.• Collect and summarize quantitative and qualitative data for the preparation of reports. • Generate and administer over $5 million in separately funded grant project. • Facilitate internal marketing activities to create awareness of the features and benefits of the Program among students and faculty; identify and develop an effective media strategy; collaborate with professional and support staff to ensure the Center’s web site reflects new initiatives.

Handled all aspects of project management including personnel and budget management, fund development, community outreach, program planning and evaluation, and contract management. During my tenure, I tripled the size of the ACEE project along with its budget and the number of clients it served.• Managed (recruited, trained, and supervised) the work of 160 paraprofessional and five professional staff (over five years). • Conducted all project fund development efforts, including researching and writing grant proposals to foundations, businesses, and governmental agencies. • Coordinated all grant management activities, such as the development of financial reports, program evaluations, progress reports, and the negotiation and management of contracts with multiple state and local agencies.• Coordinated and designed systems for generating data and information to produce periodic financial, evaluation, and progress reports. • Initiated and maintained community outreach efforts and collaborations with various community-and faith-based organizations, service organizations, as well as local government agencies, public schools, and neighborhood associations. • Monitored all ACEE program functions for compliance with state and national requirements and served as liaison to state and federal representatives.• Co-chaired a model citywide festival comprised of 30 community organizations, 200 volunteers, and over a dozen public schools to promote books, reading, and family literacy.• Participated in cross-functional teams that developed and implemented strategic, communication, and program action plans for the Charles A. Dana Center.
