Managing a remote team of samplers across Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles ensuring compliance is met with the requirements of ISO17025 and MACS (Measurement, Assurance and Certification Scotland) Standards. Dealing directly with CSD, whose operatives take samples on the Outer Isles of Orkney and Shetland and the Inner Hebrides. Ensuring the delivery of excellent customer service to Scottish Water and its customers through Sampling and delivery of Samples to the laboratory maintaining UKAS and DWTS Accreditation. Calibration of essential sampling equipment. Incident Management experience.

Gained the Level 3 Award in Education and Training and SQA Workplace Assessor. Involved in training course design and the refresh of Scottish Waters DOMS training course. Facilitate / Delivery of training courses relating to Water Distribution and Health & Safety. Assessing Modern Apprentices and experienced Operators to SVQ Standards and Competency Frameworks. Member of Scottish Waters DOMS Working Group and the EU Skills National Water Hygiene Working Group. In February 2017 I became Lead Instructor for Water Distribution which included supporting the other instructors and Managing Training Programs and Training Course Designs. I gained my Internal Verifier Qualification which allowed me to Verify the work assessed by other assessors.

Managing a team of 16 Sampling Couriers across the whole of Scotland, to ensure delivery of both clean and wastewater samples to the laboratory in set timescales for analysis to be carried out. This is all carried out while ensuring compliance is met with the requirements of ISO17025 and maintaining DWTS (Drinking Water Testing Standards) Accreditation. Dealing with various Airlines, Ferries and Carriers to ensure efficient delivery of samples and equipment.

West Of Scotland

I was involved with the Rehab of water mains to improve water quality. This included supervising contractors undertaking the work, operating Strategic and Boundary Valves, completing SW DOMS IAF’s and signing these off for contractors, reporting back at weekly progress meetings to Project Managers and attending weekly work commitment meetings. Other duties including checking Water Pumping Stations and Clear Water Tanks ensuring we provide potable water to our customers.

West Of Scotland

Following the completion of my 4 years training as a Junior Operative, I became a Network Maintenance Operative. During the next 11 years I was repairing and maintaining the Water Network along with also laying many new water mains to extend the network to new developments and installing new customer connections.I was also involved in the reinstatement of excavations that we had complete to bring the roads and footpaths etc back to how they should be. I gained my Class 2 HGV license at this time to allow me to drive the Hi-Ab lorries to complete these tasks.

Starting out as a Junior Operative I completed 4 years training including on job experience with block release to college to study the theory behind the water industry where I gained City and Guilds Water Industry Part 1 and Part 2.As a Junior Operative I was involved in various different departments including Network Maintenance and Repair where I was repairing and upgrading the Water Network, Network Inspection where I was involved in monitoring the Water Network and dealing with Customer Queries, GIS Drawing Office where I helped update the GIS Drawings as required and also in some Water Treatment which included monitoring SCADA systems, checking treated water storage points, taking samples and rectifying faults within the works.
