Currently, I returned to Holy Family Shelter to serve as Associate Director. In my current role I have the responsibility of leading a team of five employee’s serving our most vulnerable population of citizens – homeless families. My responsibilities are to monitor and respond to overall shelter operations and program goals. This includes client needs, direct staff supervision needs, community-wide needs, and publicly representing our organization. My leadership is challenged daily but gives me an opportunity grow as a leader. As I write this, we are facing one of our nation’s most profound challenges – the COVID 19 virus pandemic. The impact on the poor is extraordinary, and my current role requires vision and leadership in the face of a crisis. Prior to working for HFS I served as the Outreach and Recruitment Planning Coordinator for the Marion County Election Board. In holding this position, I served a pivotal role in orchestrating the election day process. A major contributor to my success comes from the relationships I have developed along the way. Many of those include community stakeholders, political parties and media outlets such as print, radio, and television; all having a common goal of informing the community about upcoming political elections. During that time, I continued to be active in the community through various activities. Prior to working for the Marion County Election Board, during my first term at Holy Family Shelter. My role gave me the opportunity to work with families and volunteers from a diverse array of socioeconomic backgrounds with a vast array of racial, ethnic, religious and political beliefs and practices. In this leadership role, I provided vision and leadership to a team of shift supervisors and volunteers to run the day-to-day operations of the homeless shelter. Prior to that role, I was the Homeless Prevention Coordinator for Forest Manor Multi Service Center. In this role, I was afforded the opportunity to bridge the gap between government and homelessness agencies while providing resources to serve the homeless population. As the coordinator, I was charged with advocating for services to address the needs of the homeless population in Indianapolis. This experience aided in providing those who have fallen on hard times, while directing them to needed community resources. The knowledge and experience I’ve gained over the years, coupled with my political leadership, has uniquely prepared me to add value to your organization.
