Growing up, I felt the sting of invisibility—moments when I was overlooked and unheard, questioning whether my voice had value. Those experiences left a mark, sparking in me a determination to ensure others wouldn’t feel that same isolation.Over time, I learned to build resilience, to “flex the muscles” of empathy and compassion, even in spaces where they seemed out of place. This wasn’t an easy journey. I grew up in Long Island, NY, in a culture where self-reliance and hustle were everything. The prevailing mindset was one of individualism—fending for oneself. Yet, the more I stepped beyond that mindset, the more I saw that true excellence and success thrive in connection, in community.Radical Empathy became my calling, a force that goes beyond passive understanding to active, intentional connection. I saw how a lack of empathy derails communities and how embracing it uplifts them. My mission took shape in schools, communities, and organizations, helping young people develop the strength to lead with empathy. I saw Radical Empathy soften the hearts of young people in the criminal justice system, opening them up to new possibilities. I witnessed it transform students who once felt indifferent—toward their grades, their futures, even themselves—into individuals who not only valued their own potential but also cared deeply about the world around them. I watched communities find new strength and purpose through empathy, as people who were once uncertain of their impact began to believe in their power to make a difference.Then, in the most challenging days after losing my daughter, I found myself in a place of despair—suicidal, without hope, and struggling for meaning. Yet, the empathy of my students saved my life. These are the stories I share to show how Radical Empathy is not just a theory but a lifeline to the survival of our future generations. I’ve dedicated my life to advancing youth because it was through the radically empathetic decisions of young people that I'm still here today.Today, I speak around the globe, create personal development programs, and lead workshops centered on Radical Empathy. I’ve seen firsthand the positive ripple effects that empathy creates in schools and organizations and the potential it holds for reshaping our future.
