Oversee the daily operations of the UCLA Digital Media Lab including quality control, vendor relations, post production workflows, timeline/deliverable management, diagnosing technical obstacles and streamlining digital operations. Monitor digital archive operations for the purposes of guaranteeing uninterrupted retrieval and ingest of digital content.Provide weekly metrics to Digital Lab Supervisor regarding status of existing projects, analyze quality metrics, forecast potential throughput obstacles and provide solutions to accommodate growth and expansion of digital pipeline to meet current and future production targets.Manage digital media library and recommend best practices for migration of digital assets. Recommend best practices for digitization, transcoding, frame rate standards conversion and migration of digital assets from a production environment to long-term archival storage. Requires an exhaustive command of digital file attributes and up-to-date insight into the long-term viability of mezzanine level and preservation class digital codecs and wrappers.Operate 4K film scanner/datacine to produce archival derivatives and files for exhibition, broadcast and online platforms. Operate videotape equipment to produce electronic preservation masters or mezzanine deliverables to achieve optimal signal quality for tape duplication and/or digitization. Edit, color grade, transcode and finalize video for broadcast, web and theatrical platforms.

Hired to perform the meticulous conservation/preservation treatments necessary to safeguard the legacy motion picture elements in the NARA collection. As Motion Picture Digitization Project Manager devised and authored NARA digital preservation capture and restoration parameters for the motion picture collection. As the Motion Picture Digitization Plan Project Manager solicited collaboration across divisional stakeholders the selection of appropriate mezzanine and preservation digital derivatives. Facilitate the project scope, prioritized goals, and defined deliverables. Submit scheduled reports outlining project progress, problems and solutions. Provide direction and support to team members and communicated project objectives to NARA participants. Instrumental in establishing the NARA digital preservation capture and restoration parameters and composing film digitization standard operating procedures for the Motion Picture Division.Scan motion picture films for preservation on 4K datacine. Supervise staff training on preservation film scanning fundamentals and objectives.As a colorist, grade and color correct 2K/4K film scans for HD broadcast and digital cinema deliverables. Evaluate theatrical exhibition digital cinema packages for image and sound accuracy.Inspect, repair, and sync 35mm and 16mm film elements using standard film inspection equipment including cement and tape splicers, synchronizers, rewinds and Steenbecks.Compare and appraise the image quality of color and B&W elements necessary to achieve appropriate information retention during analog duplication and/or digitization. Perform motion picture laboratory services using traditional film laboratory quality control targets and measurements. Conduct scene-to-scene timing/grading on color analyzer, operate BHP panel contact printer and film processor. Make timing adjustments as needed to correct for any gamma inconsistencies and color imbalances that may be evident in trial answer prints.

Recruited by the archive director to oversee the high-definition transfer of the Society’s signature motion picture titles and institute archival standards and procedures necessary to preserve the legacy media collection.Managed the Society’s “Acquisition” and “Represented” videotape collections. Catalogued administrative metadata in data asset management (DAM) system.Oversee videotape digitization efforts resulted in timely deliverable of content for deadline critical television production schedules.Coordinated with external vendors the specifications and parameters of all HD film reformatting projects. Responsibilities included content identification, research/ cataloguing as well as inspection and repair of theatrical prints, camera original and pre-print elements. Valued for keen analytical skills, organizational aptitude and natural talent to work successfully with colleagues on high-profile preservation projects destined for public exhibition.Collaborated on institutional strategies and workflows to stabilize and preserve 400,000 feet of nitrate film experiencing advanced levels of safety and nitrate deterioration. Inspected, repaired, spliced and edited original black & white camera negatives and prints. Evaluated new projection prints, negatives, and preservation elements for accuracy and consistency with UCLA archival standards using industry established quality control instruments. Appraised footage for its potential historical significance and assessed its value for future preservation and restoration projects.Partnered with senior preservation staff on developing theme, narrative arc, and selection of film clips for the 2006 UCLA Festival of Preservation Newsreel Program: “Civil Rights and the Cold War”. Composed introduction and hosted the theatrical program.
