As the Community Engagement Associate, I support implementation efforts for several Rewiring America partner programs, including the Power Forward Communities (PFC) and Local Government Leaders Coalitions (LGL). Additionally, I am charged with: - Proliferating RA's electrification tools, resource launches, and press releases to local leaders across the country- Writing and publishing community electrification success stories with potential constituencies - Producing resources and lead electrification trainings for participants throughout the U.S. - Organizing various stakeholders in the development and implementation of an electrification coalition- Traveling to attend and represent Rewiring America at convening, events and conferences to build relationships, advance Rewiring America’s brand, and recruit new partners into our coalitions- Leading capacity building efforts for RA's national and local partners, including Habitat for Humanity, United Way, National League of Cities, USDN, C40, and Climate Mayors

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, as the Senior Director of Advocacy and Capacity Building I focused less on capacity building and more on spearheading HMI's legislative agenda to improve the legal, mental, and sexual health outcomes for LGBTQIA+ youth across New York state. This included: - lobbying for progressive legislation, including co-sponsoring Assembly Bill A10380 with New York State Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal, championing compulsory gender and sexuality training for medical care professionals- serving on the Transgender, Gender Non-Conforming, and Non-Binary (TGNCNB) work group policy advisor for the Office of the Manhattan District Attorney- leading HMI's Continuing Education (CE) certification with the New York State Department of Education (NYSED) for mental health providers- developed HMI's 'Fee-for-Service' training model to support fundraising initiatives totaling more than $25,000 annually

As the leader of the Advocacy and Capacity Building department, I oversaw the departmental fiscal operations of $1-million and provided supervisory support to 2 professional staff members and graduate-level student interns while still offering capacity building and organizational assessment services. As the Assistant Director of Training, I served as the principal curricula designer for all HMI's external trainings on LGBTQIA+ youth safety and inclusion. I facilitated over 200 capacity building, training, coaching, and technical assistance sessions to over 2000 youth service providers, governmental agency leaders, and elected officials across NYC and in New York state. Additionally, in this role I: - conducted over 10 organizational needs assessments with external stakeholders using an internally developed evaluation tool known as PRYSM - served as the instructor and facilitator of the HMI Youth Advocates Fellowship: a 16-week learning intensive empowering LGBTQIA+ youth to use data, community engagement, and technology to enact change

Assuming the role of Coordinator of the Pregnancy Prevention role marked my transition from a direct service practitioner to a more administrative role in the agency, though I still provided a few direct services to professional staff members. Some of those services included: - overseeing the programmatic and budgetary aspects of the Comprehensive Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention (CAPP) grant - offering supervision to two professional staff members implementing the agency's largest sexual and reproductive health programming- convening a state-wide task force on improving sexual and reproductive health for LGBTQIA+ youth - developing and facilitating professional trainings on sexual and reproductive health services for LGBTQIA+ youth and their families- co-authoring LGBTQIA+ inclusive comprehensive sexuality education recommendations for NY State Department of Health's Comprehensive Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention (CAPP) program- creating a digital health campaign to address LGBTQIA+ youth family planning options

As the Educational Specialist for Pregnancy Prevention, I was namely responsible for implementing the evidence based intervention Be Proud, Be Responsible (BPBR) : a 6-module curriculum that provides adolescents with the knowledge, motivation and skills to change their behaviors in ways that will reduce their risk of contracting HIV. In addition to facilitating BPBR, I also: - provided 1-on-1 reproductive health and family planning consultations with youth members- coordinated on-site STI/HIV testing with LGBTQIA+inclusive health care organizations- escorted youth and their families to culturally fluent sexual and reproductive health care providers in the NYC area

In this role, I co-led all campus-wide health education initiatives along side the Associate Director of the Office of Health Education and the graduate-level interns. Some initiatives included: - developing digital and in-print health promotion materials - providing one-to-one health behavior consultations with students on tobacco cessation, alcohol consumption, sexual and reproductive health, and stress-reduction activities- spearheading harm-reduction, alternative to substance-use programming for students - facilitating sexual health, wellness, and consent workshops for first-year students and student organizationsAdditionally, I developed the curriculum for and instructed the Real Education About College Health (REACH) course and internship program. The REACH program trains undergraduate students as peer educators to provide health and wellness education to their peers through workshops, community-level engagements, and outreach initiatives. Lastly, I co-facilitated an anonymous, weekly drop-in space for students exploring their sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression as well as advised SHADES, a student-led Queer and Trans People of Color (QTPOC) organization.
