Professional Learning Specialist

Current

United States

I am a charter member of the Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE) program. As an MIE I travel the country representing Microsoft through one of its training partners (NCCE) at local, state and national professional conferences as well as other professional development events. I have since attained the level of Advanced MIE Trainer and now share the responsibility of identifying and training new members across the country. All these experiences have allowed me to expand my understanding of professional development and the implementation of technology beyond what I would otherwise encounter from within our own district. Additionally, I am an MIE Expert, Surface Expert and a certified Minecraft Trainer. Recently, I worked closely with the Minecraft Team to develop/update the new MIE training materials. I plan to continue my partnership with Microsoft and look forward to the additional professional growth it promises in the future.

Mar 2008 - Present

Senior Analyst For Architecture & Integration

Tampa/St. Petersburg, Florida Area

I work to support innovative teaching practices across the district and support the effective implementation of O365. While in this position I designed and implemented several programs at the school and district level aimed at bringing classrooms up to 1:1 computer status. Our implementation involved pedagogical research along with site managed action research and ongoing reflective practices supported within Professional Learning Communities. One of our most successful programs called Project Innovate ran for three years and reached into 23 schools by the end of the project due in part by a change in funding at the state level. I am also the district Adobe Connect administrator, as such, I am responsible for the maintenance of licensing, supporting all users and producing and delivering online content for all district users. I do this by supporting our users with course and curriculum development as well as providing training and support on the Adobe Connect Meeting (Webinar) environment. Specifically, I have arranged, supported and delivered Webinars in Adobe Connect and Skype for Business for district, state and national events with hundreds of participants and produced on-demand resources that can be easily viewed online after the live events have taken place.

Team Lead Technology Training

Hillsborough County School District

Tampa/St. Petersburg, Florida Area

As the Team Lead for a team of 8 technology trainers housed at the newly constructed Instructional Services Center I managed the scheduling of open registration throughout the year by meeting periodically with the team to project needs and plan offerings. I then secure the rooms at the ISC using the existing room reservation system and then post courses directly into the Professional Development System (PDS). I also manage the inventory of training materials including required content updates and subsequent print requests such that manuals are always up to date and in stock for all the trainings we offer. All while monitoring our materials budget so as to maximize our offerings in a cost efficient manner. Since the Instructional Services Center (ISC) opened I have assumed the responsibility of managing the technology in all eleven of our training rooms. Our week long Microsoft Innovative Educator Summer Institute has trained over 150 teachers in the past three summers and our “Back to School with Microsoft” Summer Showcase has trained nearly 700 teachers over two Saturday events.

District Resource Teacher - Technology Trainer

Tampa/St. Petersburg, Florida Area

In 2007 I left my AP Physics classroom after a 21 year career in teaching to pursue my interest in technology. position as DRT at Professional Development in Technology Training I often work together with the staff to identify and analyze critical training needs throughout the district. Under the guidance of my supervisor, John Ellison, and with the area technology trainers we then develop and implement training on a wide variety of applications. It is often my role to assure that the strengths of our team members are utilized to their full potential by involving them in projects that best suit their skill set and experiences. One of the most exciting things most recently is our involvement in the emerging online environment of professional development using Moodle. Again under the guidance of my supervisor, John Ellison, we are all becoming highly trained in the development and facilitation of online courses. I manage the approval and assignment of site based faculty study requests through an online request form and a system of conferences in First Class that I developed with the assistance of my colleagues in Web Communications. I have also worked with several district curriculum supervisors to identify, develop and deliver specific training opportunities to the teachers in their programs including middle and secondary reading teachers and coaches, world language, secondary science and middle school STEM teachers, media specialists and district technology specialists. I also support many district initiatives that require our training facility and/or our technology support including transportation, administration, FTE certification, Lawson and LTM. I have worked with district personnel from several divisions including PD, IS, CSS, CTE, CTechEd and many district partners including Microsoft, Intel, UDT, HP, SMART. Promethean, Mimio, ELMO and others in the planning and development of several district wide implementations.
