MSOE Premedical Society is dedicated to supporting those aspiring to a career in medicine by creating educational learning experiences, hosting guest speaker engagements, and providing resources such as local volunteering opportunities and networking events. As the founding president of this organization, I am in charge of leading and planning all events/meeting, creating resources for members to utilize, and supporting the other executive board members in their roles.

At the start of summer 2024, I helped launch Ascension SE Wisconsin Hospital: Elmbrook Campus's ED Ambassador program by adapting resources from another local ED ambassador program. As the coordinator of this program, I am in charge of managing the volunteers by running their kickoff meeting, orientation, and monthly check-ins. I also help recruit volunteers for this program.

Within this role, I act as both an emergency department technician and health unit coordinator. Prior to taking an official position in this department, I cross-trained and worked as a cross-trained certified nursing assistant for eight months through the youth apprenticeship program. I have been trained to place intravenous (IV) lines, collect laboratory samples, obtain patients’ vital signs, assist in medical emergencies, perform EKGs & bladder scans, stock supplies, check patients in, and maintain medical records. This employment has allowed me to assist in medical procedures such as intraosseous access, joint reduction, central line placement, cardioversion, and endotracheal intubation.

In this role, I work in the emergency department, intensive care unit, COVID unit, cardiac floor, and medical-surgical floor as a certified nursing assistant. On a daily basis, I place intravenous (IV) lines, collect blood, urine, and stool samples for laboratory testing, obtain vital signs, perform EKGs and bladder scans, assist in medical emergencies, answer call lights, and assist patients with activities of daily living while maintaining patient comfort. Through all of these tasks, I have had the opportunity to see the cruciality of research, hundreds of medical procedures, the teamwork required to maintain precision in the most critical patients, and the full spectrum of emotions that capture a patient while at the hospital.

In this role, I memorize and portray case scripts detailing emotions, behaviors, and symptoms for stimulated learning situations. These are used to instruct and assess the clinical and interpersonal skills of medical students, residents, fellows and other healthcare professionals. I am in charge of providing electronic constructive feedback to those that I assess in a timely, organized fashion.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Coaching program focused on strengthening my connection to the Coca-Cola Scholars network, deepening my reflection and application skills around self-awareness, empathy, vision, and inspiration, and exploring concepts around growth mindset, personal leadership development, and effective goal setting. As a participant in this program, I formed a mentorship relationship with another Coca-Cola Scholar, in which I refined my goal-setting abilities, developed stronger soft skills, and became versed in the stage-balcony problem solving technique. I also completed social identity mapping, the ValueAble assessment, SMART goal planning, and personal development activities on growth mindsets, learning curves, and self-reflection.

The Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation envisions a nation invigorated by the principles and institutions that uphold our unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. As an external relations intern, I help bring this vision to fruition by managing the social media content calendar based on standard operating procedures, creating and scheduling social media content across three platforms on a triweekly basis, editing podcast transcripts & press releases, compiling the weekly press clips email for staff reference, and attending weekly Ironlight meetings. In addition to these responsibilities, I drafted the 2023 Summer Book List, streamlined the weekly press clips newsletter process by setting up Google Alerts, updated the Foundation’s education talking points document with current statistics from WILL’s 2023 Apples to Apples report and IRG analysis, and created a formal social media onboarding guide for future associates & interns.
