In my internship with Wabtec, I developed a validation test plan for static characterization of 25 IGBT modules, executed over 375 tests, and analyzed data for possible malfunctions or abnormalities in the modules. To ensure that future team members could replicate testing procedures, I created a detailed operation manual for the test stand. In addition, I supported the power electronics lab by researching tools, electronics, hardware, and wiring equipment for purchase and inventoried all lab probes.

As a tutor for Electronics, I work with students one-on-one or in small groups to help them grasp difficult topics introduced in lecture. Each week, I review the course material and meet with the professor to remain current on lecture progression and discuss logistics. I spend roughly 3 hours per week on preparation and 7 hours per week on tutor sessions focusing on homework, exam preparation, and general difficulties with the course.

At GE Transportation, I gained experience in manufacturing operations and hardware design. Through observation of 3 locomotive production lines, I compared planned, ideal, and actual labor hours while looking for greater efficiencies. Data from my analysis contributed to the improvement of future labor planning materials. In addition, I assisted with materials presentation in the initial production planning of a locomotive by organizing over 450 parts through studying technical drawings and specification sheets. The team’s efforts were projected to impact part identification time by over 70% and reduce part reorders by over 50%. My work also included the design of a circuit for production on an OHV truck. The circuit was needed to limit inductive voltage spikes due to hard switching of a 3-phase alternator and protect the rectifier diodes. I worked with the Mentor Graphics software package to complete the PCB layout, wrote a component design specification, and verified analysis procedures from the team in Erie, PA. Aside from building my technical skillset, I improved my communication and leadership skills with my participation in the Community Service Committee and my time orienting a new-hire. Within the Community Service Committee, I was heavily involved in the coordination of 4 successful service events for GE Transportation interns.
