This was the hard lesson I learned in my two decades in healthcare working with fabulous teams to bring real-time data-driven innovation into everyday practice. There was no end to the things we envisioned improving with real-time data:• Discharging patients on time• Minimizing fall and bedsore risks• Precisely knowing who has an emerging MRSA infection and readily intervene• Knowing what a patient with heart failure needs in the moment to keep them out of the hospital• Automating busy work to minimize physician burnout• Rapidly improving practice performance• Bringing the patient voice into the care encounter• And much, much more.But we ran into the all-too common challenges with using real-time data: it was too costly and too slow to put applications into production or to update them as our data needs evolved.
