As the first data hire and Director of Data Science at Resilience Code, I planned and executed the creation of software to collect, process, store, analyze, and present health and human performance data from ~40 unique sources for over 6000 clients. We built an automated data pipeline, orchestrated via Airflow, which processes and stores patient data in a secure database, a backend API that retrieves data and serves it to dependent applications, and a document generator that produces individualized reports for each client, allowing clinicians to quickly and efficiently prepare for client appointments.

In the Department of Allergy and Immunology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus under Dr. Brent Palmer, I worked to develop new methods of evaluating the impact of HIV infection on the immune system. My primary focus was on the interaction between the immune system, microbiome, and HIV infection in the gut. Additionally, when the COVID-19 pandemic began, I started to work with Dr. Preston Neff on a novel antigen test that was far more cost-effective and shelf-stable than other tests that existed at the time. The test, which used aptamers (oligonucleotides designed to bind to a molecule) in place of antibodies, made it to the semi-final round of the XPRIZE Rapid COVID Testing competition where our team of two competed against large biotech companies.

In the Laboratory of Integrated Physiology at the University of Houston under the mentorship of Dr. Melissa Markovski, I studied how acute bouts of exercise impact the immune system. I was primarily interested in the contrast in responses between aerobic and resistance training, and how these responses might be harnessed to improve health outcomes for individuals suffering from a variety of ailments.

At the University of Houston, I taught the lab section of Exercise Testing and Prescription. Subject matter covered in the course included: pre-screening before exercise testing, testing various measures of fitness, prescribing specific exercise programs for individuals, and different applications of exercise for both clinical populations and athletes.

In the Integrative Physiology Laboratory at Creighton University, I assisted in the recruitment of subjects and collection of data for a research study concerning exercise-induced T-lymphocyte activation and its impact on HIV susceptibility under the mentorship of Dr. Jacob Siedlik.Skills Acquired: separation of T cells from whole blood, antibody staining of cells, flow cytometry

As a teaching assistant in the Basic Statistics and Research Design course in the Exercise Science and Pre-Health Professions department at Creighton University, I aided in the instruction of the course and supervised four experiment-based research projects conducted by the undergraduate students in the class. Students in the course were required to conduct statistical analyses in R and I mentored students on designing and executing their respective analyses.
