Byron has gathered a broad array of professional experience working for the government, private, and not-for-profit sectors internationally and in Australia for over twenty years. Byron is a well-respected and influential manager, strategist, business developer, and adviser that has applied himself to some of the most complex and challenging environments across the world - from economic development in crises-affected Sri Lanka to good governance in south-east Asia, to the humanitarian and refugee crisis across Syria and the Middle East, to water resource management in the changing climate of Australia. Byron has an extensive background in senior organisational management, team building, project management, professional services, and business development. He has technical expertise in economics, governance, political-economy analysis, data analysis, design, monitoring and evaluation. And has worked in a range of sectors including economics, agriculture, environment, governance, humanitarian, peace building, and community development. Byron has managed a team of 1200 staff, overseen the implementation of projects worth ~$200m, successfully developed bids and negotiated over $160m of contracts, worked in 20+ and lived in five countries, and partnered with multilateral financial institutions (WB, ADB), United Nations (UNICEF, WFP, UNHCR, UNDP, FAP, etc), Government (various Australian departments including DFAT, UK-FCDO, USAID, EU, NZ-MFAT, etc), NGOs and the private sector. Most recently, Byron has focused on the Australian aid program for almost a decade and has intimate knowledge of its systems and processes.
