- Automate creation of service requestsOur project managers (PMs) receive a large amount of service requests from a particular customer. The customer sends shipment information files, which contain data such as which service is requested for a compound. We initially created an application to take this file and create orders in our system. However, there was still a lot of communication between the PMs, the customer, and the information systems team. The PMs also had to manually inform the customer the the compounds had been received. We solved this by automating the entire workflow. The system we built comprises multiple Java web services, Oracle PL/SQL packages and a Python client (WxPython) installed on a PC in the lab which is used to scan the delivery and trigger the process.- Tube handler softwareWe receive a large amount of tubes (containing compounds) from a customer (several hundred per week). We scan the racks and then use a robot called a tube handler to rearrange the tubes in the customer racks in to new layouts in racks to go into our assays. I designed and developed an application that reads in scan files and assay description files and automatically generates a worklist for the tube handler. The application keeps track of all tube locations so that if tubes are reused, the tube handler picks them from the correct location. The application was implemented in Python, using WxPython for the GUI, which gave me some experience in user interface programming in Python. I also gained experience in multi-tasking, as the application uses multiple threads to monitor the file system for changes.- Developed and maintained Python web apps (Pyramid, HTML/CSS, JavaScript)- Worked on TypeScript and Python code generators for in-house entity relationship modelling software- Requirements gathering, workling closely with scientists- Helped with the implementation of a new agile change management process, involving changes to our development methodology
