I am using my multidisciplinary background to teach life-long analytical skills to physics and chemistry students in the local community.

A mixture of monthly classes and daily interning to learn more about the local community college culture in order to become an effective teaching faculty member.- Classes cover community college policies, self-governance, student success, equity, and effective pedagogy/andragogy practices for a diverse student body- Internship includes shadowing a mentor professor, guest lecturing, committee meetings, and informational interviews with students, staff, administrators, and faculty (both counseling and teaching)

I earned a degree in Materials Science in J Michael Ramsey's Analytical Chemistry group at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I designed, fabricated, and tested an SOI-based field effect device for use as the ionization source for a handheld, miniature mass spectrometer.Experience and Accomplishments- Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) fabrication techniques including Chrome-on-glass mask design and fabrication; double-sided SOI processing; reactive ion etching (DRIE & RIE); photolithography; thin film deposition- 3D Ion Trap Instrumentation based on sub-mm, cylindrical ion trap (CIT) and stretched length ion traps (SLIT) operated at high-pressure ambient air (1 Torr)- Device characterization techniques including electron multiplier and faraday cup-based emission studies, SEM, EDS, XPS, profilometry, and digital microscopy- Utilized software packages for instrument I/O (LabVIEW); data analysis (Igor); CAD (SolidWorks); PCB Design (Eagle); and modeling (Simion)- Trained undergraduate and graduate students in microfabrication and high pressure mass spectrometry- Collaborated with research groups in industry (908 Devices, Inc) and academia (University of Arizona)- Presented research at national conferences (ASMS and PittCon)

Assisted in production and characterization of a solution-based graphene substrate for platinum nanocrystals to be used as a lower-cost catalyst in hydrogen fuel cells.Experience and Accomplishments- Scaled a modified Hummer's Method for solution-based graphene production to gram-level yields and determined conditions for platinum crystal growth on the graphene in solution.- Characterized each step of the process via XPS, SEM, EDS, UV absorbance, DSC, TGA, zeta potential, TEM, AFM, XRD, and cyclic voltammetry.- Presented research at a national conference (National Graduate Research Polymer Conf).

Served as liaison between course professors, teaching assistants, and lab stockroom personnel to coordinate two lab courses: General Chemistry for Engineers and Introductory Chemistry.Responsibilities- Instructed and monitored 10-15 graduate student teaching assistants and supervised undergraduate student workers.- Maintained labs for 1400 undergraduates including reagent stocking and hazardous waste collection.

Field engineer specializing in nitrogen-foam fracturing of oil shale and coal bed methane gas wells.Responsibilities- Worked with the treater to supervise up to 15 crew members on gas well fracturing projects worth $40,000 to $250,000 per day.- Performed in-lab and on-site frack-fluid analysis, monitoring pH, ion and mineral content, bacterial contamination, and gel viscosity.
