About Carrie Eckert

As the Synthetic Biology group leader at ORNL and previous appointments at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the University of Colorado, Boulder under the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Institute (RASEI), I have a number of years experience in both management and research in the genetic manipulation and metabolic engineering of a number of eukaryotic and prokaryotic systems. In addition to my work at NREL, I served as the Associate and co-Interim Directo of RASEI. My current research involves next-gen metabolic engineering of microbes for biofuel production. I am the Genetic Tools Team Lead for the BER BRC the Center for Bioenergy Innovation (CBI) led by Oak Ridge National Lab, and I am involved in research in collaboration with Ryan Gill (CU Boulder), Adam Arkin (LBNL), and Chris Voigt (MIT) to adapt high throughput genome editing and regulatory circuit tools for DOE-relevant non-model microbes. Previous work includes hydrogenase studies in the cyanobacteria Synechocystis, the purple non-sulfur photosynthetic bacteria Rubrivivax gelatinosus CBS, and the chemolithoautotroph Ralstonia eutropha H16, or Cupriavidus necator.

Listed skills include Molecular Biology, Protein Expression, Biochemistry, Genetics, and 30 others.
