Profile bio

About Cai Thomas

Growing up, I sacrificed a big part of me to conform to the gender norms and roles of society. I lacked the affirming spaces, the role models, the community, and the language to define my experience. It took me years of processing to understand my identity. It took multiple conversations, books, movies, and supportive friends to make me understand that being a part of the LGBTI+ community was not only normal (and amazing), that it wasn’t anything new. My journey will not end with me. The next generation should not have to wait until adulthood to live their full authentic lives. All young people deserve the space to explore their identity along with their peers, as they develop into young humans. This requires creating affirming spaces for young people to explore themselves and supporting them through this process of self discovery; and it also requires educating adults, such as teachers, health care providers, and colleagues with whom they will interact. My guiding question in this work is, “How do we create a truly just, equal, and inclusive culture for LGBTI+ youth globally?” This question will continue to guide me until we create a world where LGBTI+ youth are not only safe, but they are free and thriving.I am the COO and Co-Founder of The Global Center, an NGO who envisions a world where LGBTI+ youth are free. I facilitate workshops for educators, health care providers, and organizations and am currently available for consultations.Gender Equity & Social Inclusion | LGBTQIA+ Advocacy | Research | Education | Workshop Facilitation | Workplace Training | Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Strategy | Curriculum Design | Technical Guidance | Program Management | Writing | Editing | Public Speaking | Coaching | Community Outreach | Survey Design & Development | Mentoring | Data Collection Methods | Qualitative & Quantitative Research MethodsOpinions expressed here are my own.
