Responsible for the rebuild of the current Angular based web/mobile applications to React and Redux. This also included streamlining the setup and tear down of the API and its dependencies using Docker and Docker compose so that anyone could pickup the stack, spin it up and be productive. My work additionally included building major API features, writing tests for the existing back-end services and pipelines and workflows for those as well.

Responsible for design and implementation of traditional and mobile applications atop our developing financial infrastructure. This included numerous AngularJS & React mobile and desktop applications to allow transacting using Bitcoin protocols and interaction with existing 3rd party financial networks (ACH) and services. I also constructed new payment railways utilizing the Stellar network and protocols (stellar.org) to allow near instantaneous payments globally. Along with these topical assets, infrastructure work included creating a robust authorization and settlement process that would scale within the highly restrictive requirements for existing payment networks. I helped lead our containerization effort utilizing Docker which was responsibly edgy (read challenging and fun) for its time but has paid tremendous dividends.

Responsible for all architecture and implementation of client-side and back-end application development including working with product management and key stakeholders to develop and groom backlog, technical requirements, implementation guidelines, test plans and release management. I had another primary responsibility of keeping the development team focused and coordinating development efforts within the organization. Implementation consisted of a highly performant Ruby back-end coupled to an AngularJS front-end application which was to provide a new platform for existing and new customers to interact with our huge data warehouse.

Responsible for all client-side application development including working with team leads to develop roadmaps, requirements, implementation guidelines and test plans. Major driver of developer advocacy both internally and externally. Lead many efforts to retool both the development process and tools used in our day to day “life in the trenches”. Created a selenium framework in Python for QA to write functional tests and R&D to write integration tests. Introduced BackboneJS and Bootstrap frameworks to the R&D team for our internal and mobile applications. Planned, developed and shipped a mobile website allowing customers to managing their Liquid Web’s products and services in the first 3 months of employment.

Primary responsibilities included leading the front-end development efforts for the newly formed Web & Mobile Services group for AAA. Provided architecture and implementation guidelines for the front-end teams to follow. Communicated with product management, developers, testing teams and deployment groups to define and realize requirements, tasking, implementation and ultimately deployment of new features. Developed front-end components in JavaScript utilizing RequireJS for dependency aware script loading. Refactored both B2B and B2C codebases to standardize markup, CSS and JavaScript components. Introduced unit testing of front-end components using Jasmine and Qunit. Introduced automated acceptance testing using Ruby and capybara. Ongoing effort to implement front-end templating engine to replace reliance on backend systems not designed for codependent templating.

Responsible for the APIs that powered our payment processing platform. Primarily this involved a fairly typical Rails stack in conjunction with some more low level code which handled bulk image processing. An Elastic Search backend was added to handle searching for details within our data warehouse which prompted us to write extensions to the Ruby bindings for Elastic Search.

City Circles is a hyper-local community based content distribution and aggregation application. It primarily employs geo-locative technology highlighting hot spots within a city for users to manage connections with other users and local businesses. The current target market is the Phoenix Light Rail system but already has plans to expand into Portland and Washington DC. You can view the beta at http://beta.citycircles.com

Lead all web development projects and social media efforts. Primary focused on small to mid-sized local business websites and development projects. Internally developed two web based review marketing strategy applications (Django, MongoDB) which utilized Wufoo's (http://www.wufoo.com/) form building API. Two Python libraries were developed as wrappers to the Wufoo API. These projects will soon be open sourced. Primarily, the entire infrastructure for all projects within the company were in PHP. While sufficient, I undertook an effort to modernize development processes. This included shifting the company to Python (Django) and Ruby (Rails) as the primary languages for all new projects. This change has been beneficial not only from a productivity perspective but also for attracting talent to the company. Also underway is a transition to PostgreSQL and PostGIS for our relational database solution.

(New Media Innovation Lab): Lead all development projects taken on by the lab. These included projects contracted through Gannett and outside clients. Responsible for design and implementation of those projects, managing workflow with student developers, and collaboration with the respective client(s). Delivered numerous projects including a social networking website for local musicians, a Facebook application allowing journalists to tag Facebook members in stories, predictive analytics widget determining probability of survival in the event of a zombie apocalypse, jeopardy style flash game concerning environmental issues, bartering website for local parents, "Tribes" community connections Symbian application and an Arizona politics iPhone application.(Knight): Responsible for coordinating technology requirements for all student projects. This included determining the application platform, server administration, potential barriers and development of numerous web based components. In most cases, this included custom Drupal or WordPress plugins and in others, full blown web applications. Most of these projects were submitted to the Knight News Challenge with a few going on to receive funding. Some examples of applications developed include the following: an application to parse news stories and identify relevant terms, persons, locations and provide semantic disambiguation so content producers could provide more semantic metadata in addition to just the body of a news story; screen based advertising application in which users could interact with touch screen displays in public areas as well as being able to interact with other users and advertisers via a website.(News21): Responsible for development of all student story packages and a CMS to store all story packages for the national program. Architected and developed the initial version of the application. This included integrating GIS features which at the time were almost non-existent in the Ruby community. My role then transitioned to managing development for the organization as our application grew.

Architecture lead on many projects including both revisions of the company intranet website, a public facing support website with direct integration with our call center, and numerous inter-departmental projects. Brought modernization to the organization through the use of content management solutions and technology strategies using appropriate languages and development practices. Implemented numerous content management systems, form building applications, and dynamic web based user interfaces. Responsible for server implementation, administration, and application deployment. Acted as a point of contact whenever a project would come up in the organization for ideas and feedback. Led numerous trainings for the projects that were delivered.

Web application development using ColdFusion MX, MSSQL, IIS, and other technologies. Database design, application design, site architecture design, CSS, JavaScript and HTML programming to meet strict quality requirements. Developed two tier trade show management application in unison with Cybernet Events Inc. with emphasis on portability and modularity. Also updated and maintained visitors and convention bureaus websites to meet client*s requests and needs.

Designed and maintained trade show application which became the basis for the trade show management application later developed at 220 Solutions, Inc. for Cybernet Events Inc.. Maintained IT infrastructure, including server operations (Windows Server 2003), goldmine database management (Goldmine 6.5), and workstation maintenance (Windows XP).
